Re: feeltalk thread

sidewalk It's not about the argument and who is right or wrong. Who really cares that much, if i'm going to have a discussion with people on the internet about stuff i care about i want it to be constructive not combative. Plus i just feel like that it is going against the spirit of care-tags to ac...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

balloons Perhaps for me it's necessary to think of suicide like that because if you don't the barriers to killing yourself are minimal and suicide itself will start to seem inevitable. If it's no longer something to overcome and an illness, it becomes a terminal illness and you just start waiting f...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

sidewalk reducing gender roles down to evolution and natural biology is in my opinion a completely misinformed way to look at the problem. Firstly it ignores the fact that throughout history there has been wildly different gender roles throughout history, and secondly gender roles have very little ...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

So we've been discussing how to deal with other people's health, but what about their mental health? I mean there are a couple of people I know who have probably already committed a sex crime and if they haven't then it's very likely that they will. What do you do when you know that someone has ment...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

Why are people all well and good with social justice movements until it comes to feminism? It seems like everyone is willing to ignore the crazies in the LGBTQ movement or racial equality movement, but once someone brings up feminism it's always look at this one thing someone said 20 years ago that ...

Re: feeltalk thread

God that concert was awesome though i had to be the youngest person there. First it started out with this old dude who did covers of country folk stuff that was okay, pretty boring tbh. Then Bonnie Prince Billy came out and his voice is just amazing and his lyrics are so amazingly original. I had a ...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

Isn't there a large problem with keeping everything in one group though? It seems the current wave of feminism (3rd/5th/Gaga/whatever it's called... completely unsure) faces the same problem OWS faced: there's a fairly clear endgoal, but everyone's shooting in different directions to achieve this. ...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

A lot of people seem to have the misconception that feminism is strictly female orientated. This is wrong, at least from my perspective (and other feminists i've encountered irl). The reason i call myself a feminist is A) to (hopefully) present Feminism in a positive light B) as a sign of solidarity...

Re: feminism and social progressivism thread

I think this is a pretty good article on the sort of origins of third wave feminism, where it is at the time this was published and criticisms of third wave feminism. Even though it is an academic article it is pretty easy reading. I'd recommend reading it :sweg: http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.1086/...

Re: Existentially Crisis-ing

i honestly can't say whether or not you're wrong and i don't have as much background in the subject as you seem to.
