found this brand on another forum that makes shoes and accessories with a focus on plant-based materials and sustainability. figured you might be interested, even though it's not exactly something you may wear.

No clue where the silhouette came from but the flap is not held on by velcro but is actually the way you fasten the shoes. They use snaps which are quite nice except the bottom snap is impossible so i just don't use it . A few thoughts on the shoes, I like them and they're a lot easier to wear than i thought they would be. They also fit fairly narrow which is perfect for me. The elastic on the vamp is perfect and they are actually probably some of the best fitting pairs of shoes i've owned. The shoes are super comfortable too, unfortunately i don't like wearing them all the time because they probably won't look very good all beat to shit. Build quality is superb too.

So yesterday I used my J. Hilburn gift card and went and talked to their local rep who measured me and helped me choose the products that I wanted. Unless their product is absolutely amazing I doubt I'll be using them again. The rep talked to me like I was kid, which I suppose because of my age it isn't necessarily unexpected, but it was very off putting. Especially since no one ever talks to me that way. I just don't particularly appreciate having someone act like it was my parents who put me up to buying your product because I'm 18 and need to dress like an adult now. I also don't particularly enjoy being told "this is the way you'll find you have to dress when you get into the business world." Aside from being untrue, it was just very condescending. She also was saying things like "If your parents decide you need a suit for a job interview be sure to call me." She was just very soccer mom-ish and doting in a bad way and gave me little confidence that she actually knew what she was talking about when it came to clothing.

For a customer service experience this ranks very low and I don't think it's unreasonable to treat people like a rational adult until you find that their needs require different treatment. So again unless their product is incredibly good I'm doubting that I will ever use them again, but that is just my experience with one rep. The problem I suppose for made to measure operations like that is that I already know what I like and I want and what my measurements are, why not just use Luxire? A mtm experience that I would pay for is when the rep has an understand of clothing that goes beyond what I can read in GQ and makes me feel that I can trust them to make good choices for what I want from a product. Which I suppose would require me to pay a higher premium for that service.

I'll be sure to post a product review when I get it three weeks

at frieze art fair in london this week, don't really know what i can say about the lurid commercialisation of art and fashion here.
is this the 'natural habitat' of celine etc?? enough to put you off for good...
funny story: my colleague and i, as curators at public gallery, managed to blag VIP limo home only to discover that the drivers have strict instructions not to go more than 3 miles from regents park location- because no self-respecting oligarch's wife/mistress would ever stray outside that radius. not quite enough to get us home to east london, though. so despite protests we had to get out and stand in the pouring rain trying without success to flag down taxis.

I have no idea what my personal style is anymore. Did I ever know? I feel like I'm trying to dress for all the stages of my life at once... restless teen vs young professional vs middle-aged professional vs old man in Portland, ME. Is it a reflection that my life is in flux right now? I just want a job and a home and a wife and a dog.

EDIT: I think I make this post about every two months

it just occurred to me that I want an acronym jacket for the gravity pocket. but instead of keeping a phone there, I'd keep a stack of $100 bills. how fucking baller would that be:

"and your total comes out to $3000, sir."

TBH since I heard that things that get sold at boutiques have an extra mark up I've been feeling dubious of anyone that doesn't sell exclusively from their own store front.

Wang x H&M came across as the most amazingly morally objectionable thing in fashion to me. There was an "interview" on i-D that boiled down to Wang saying 'the theme is night sports' and H&M saying they selected him because Wang has "good designs". The article concludes that this is a big deal and H&M does collaborations sometimes. I know everything is a cash grab, but I don't think I've ever quite reviled a project in the way that I do this one. "Good designs"? Can we just be outright about the fact that Alexander Wang is a big name, possibly at his apex, doesn't yet have a cheap line?

Am I in line with the common opinion on this? Should I just ignore everything H&M does? It really seems like the most viable choice.

the awang for H&M line is pretty great. instead of making cheaper versions of what you'd see on his mainline, diffusion line (or designs for balenciaga) he made something different and perfectly nailed the idea of a tight capsule collection. Despite being 50+ pieces for say the menswear, all work very well with each other and stick to the theme he has going on which as ramdom says is quite fun. what would be perhaps be """morally objectionable""" is if H&M and Awang spit out copies of his T line which would be way more profitable and popular.

now would I wear any of this line? no. but its well done and it shows both sides are willing to get creative and go beyond the cash grab.

The H&M collaborations are always a bit controversial because people always try to find underlying motives other than a simple mutual promotion for H&M and the designer but sometimes it's really not more complex than H&M offering a designer or house the chance to make a capsule collection, and the designer(s) seeing it as a fun project outside of the typical fashion week cycle. I was hoping it wouldn't be T copies so I'm pretty pleased with it, and it is pretty democratic as it allows people who don't have access to Wang or high fashion in general, be in social or economic reasons, to have a chance to own a designer item.

Quite frankly I'm sure they picked him because Isabel Marant and Margiela were pretty big duds, neither had major commercial appeal in the way Wang does (although the Margiela pieces remain my favorite and the only ones I haven't given away) and they either wanted or needed to pick someone with buzz and draw. Any kind of moral dilemma should be focused on people who will line up and then resell it for a profit, which I think is just plain rotten. I'm aiming for the accessories, and I'll probably wait to see what clothes go on sale because nothing really draws my eye.
