I've been using this Good Thing backpack for a while now, if you want a super simple, quality backpack you can't do much better for the price. All grey, black parts are just shadow.
Image
mine was less than 1/2 price new but even new they're a pretty good deal. Cordura nylon, made in Nihon, internal laptop/magazine pocket, resiliant shape, tuff zips (ykk but nice n chunky).

EDIT: forget to link site: http://www.good-thing.jp/products/

sold out i guess, sorry yall. for searching purposes just use グッドシング, and add バックパック for backpack

You could use the top 2 or the bottom 2( this is actually functional) to strap a sleeping bag or foam pad or something to it

The one in the middle is pretty much just for looks though, yeah

so refreshing to see a video like this without it being a kickstarter pitch

although its not the nicest looking thing overall and its $270

tech is cool though especially the way the laptop comes out and shit

on the topic of TNFs I really like this one in strichtarn

Just copped this one from Rains as a new uni backpack.

Image

Mini review:
Despite the minimalism, it's a lot more practical than I was expecting. There's a lot of room inside, exactly enough slots and pockets to separate out my pens, notes, books etc, the material is rigid enough to maintain some structure and stop my stuff from creasing and the straps adjust in such a way that there's no slipping and loosening. Really clean appearance, none of these straps all over the place, very easy to clean and never expands more than it needs to, keeping a slim profile. Even though it's Rains it feels really solid, their coats always felt a bit flimsy and bin-baggy but their bags are way better, the material is more in line with a Stutterheim coat, if not thicker.

Also, copped for only £46 which is gr8 since I was originally eyeing up some stuff over double that price.

recently got this vintage jansport backpacking pack with light frame (literally two long pieces of flat plastic) for 10 USD from a community rummage sale event. Been using it through the summer for short trips, camping etc. super versatile pack even if it isn't the latest tech. really been falling in love with hiking gear this summer. next quest is to find something like this (even weight distribution, multiple pockets, straps, general hiking pack features etc.) but closer to like 30L for everyday use, it's just a little bit too big to carry around even for my tall self.

in my recent research (i.e. spending all day looking at pics of bags/forums instead of working) i've found that one of the better places to find good pack reviews are online gun owner communities since there is such an obsession with preparedness and utility.

one of my favorite brands i've come across in that corner of the internet is mystery ranch, US brand that makes military gear that's also very popular in japan. I'm particularly fond of their 'sweet pea' pack.

A good friend of mine bought a 5.11 rush 24, personally I think the rush 12 looks better. Not crazy about the velcro.

Kickstarted a reprint of a book by (she invented some great synth shit back in the day) and it came with this tote bag. Would be better if it was a bit bigger but it fits 15-20 records so good for picking up some tunes.
