Weekday has some Carin Wester stuff in that looks interesting.

http://shop.weekday.com/Mens_Shop/Categ ... 43#c-47958
http://shop.weekday.com/Mens_Shop/Brand ... .1#c-47958

It's not all under the Carin Wester category for some reason.

I totally forgot to enter that comp !!!!!

:((((((((

Feel a bit of a dumbass. Actually, i remember why i didn't get round to it. I think you needed to sign up 2 other friends or whatever to their mailing list and i have no friends so no addresses... was gonna make up some fake ones but never got round to it.

Yeah the 40% pre sale is pretty ridic. It only seems to be selected stuff just now but in time it'll be everything i guess.

I really want to like that SS pressure jacket but... i don't????

Really want that OL linen artisan jacket but only a medium left... will probably get the avignon stripe blue one though.

Ahh yeah i remember seeing some of that Carin Wester stuff a few weeks back on Weekday. Seems a bit meh to me though. Those trousers are cool though. And the thick knit looks like it could be cool.

Weekday is another one that has gone a bit boring this season. Maybe the high street just struggles more during summer.

Everyone struggles in the summer really. But also, what if it's NORM CORE infiltrating the high street?

Already feels like normcore has died. It wasn't even a thing i guess. Way too hard for it to infiltrate the high street. It's so laden with irony i don't think it would translate well. Saying that, we do have American Apparel.

i introduced norm core to my mates after they were ribbing another for the way he dressed, i said "nah he's just so fashion he's norm core". they're now infatuated with it.

think it's happening.

Agree with majax, have heard that Normcore is the trend to finally dethrone hipsters. RIP what remained of my youth.

in the future, when people talk about normcore, they're going to talk about how people talked about the definition of normcore more than people who actually wore normcore

Columbia, SC, has the old mall (Macy's, Forever 21, H&M, Banana Republic, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle), and our suburban outside walking mall surrounded by stores for moms (TJ Maxx, JCPenney, Belk).

It's weird. Most people who 'care' about how they dress either travel the two hours to shopping malls in Charleston or the NC triangle. Guys dress 'fratty' or you're not in it (seriously, it's a caste system). Most girls dress like sorority pledges, though we're having a weird spawn of the Urban Outfitter / AA girl.

I kinda wish there were a retailer that did like AA but without shoddy inconsistent quality. They usually have more than a few pieces I'd want if I trusted them more. They do feel like normcore's biggest success, the white tee shirt, stonewash light jeans, white sneakers look, and I kinda like that. COS sounds like a step above them, albeit more in the skinny-collar oxford / black bomber jacket style that feels distinctly Scandinavian to me. I think I'd really like a COS.

No doubt crappy quality but i like the look of these three from Asos.

Image

Cool with the right pair of trainers or even black birks or whatever

Image

Please ignore the annoying model. Not for a 20 degree day but could be cool for winter. 50 wool / 50 poly. Cropped cut (apparently).

Image Image

These look the most interesting though. 60 wool / 40 cotton. Like the look of the texture.

WIll be shit IRL though :(

It's houndstooth.

But yeah they're a bit chef'y. I like it. Tbh i've seen a lot of cool looking chefs... baggy rolled up checkered pants with cons / loose shirt, one of the weird chef'y hats. I'd wear that.

I got a micropaisley chambray button down from uniqlo at deep sale for 12 bux that I thought was pretty nice but it got trashed after one wash. tricked again!!

all of my American apparel garms have aged really well, in particular a viscose/poly/cotton polo shirt which is worn thin as shit. was in AA outlet last week and super impressed with all the great normcore things. saw a dozen pieces which could've been straight out of an ervell or mhl collection. this velour hooded pullover didn't fit me but is a great piece of design.

they have joggers in the same, very nice.

All my yam yap stuff has been a nightmare. Sizing x instability.

Still if you want "ethical" tshirts they seem like the easiest place.

new stuff from COS:

another black bomber jacket
sweatshirt with a zip on it somewhere
t shirt with a 1mm bonded collar
t shirt with 'short sleeves'
polo shirt with caramelised buttons
trousers with only one cuff
etc

wish i bought more a few years ago when it was still interesting.

Are they going after an older consumer? Everyone else I've met IRL who likes COS is over 40 if not 50. My mom loves it (the womenswear)

The boringness of the designs says yes but the small stupid details (zips fucking everywhere) says no, they're still going after the same "H&M for yuppies" crowd, just in a worse way.

Either way I'm unimpressed. Probably still a good place to get slightly interesting tshirts / plain trousers / textured knits / straight forward suiting / hidden placket shirts on a budget but otherwise it seems proper futile.

I saw weekday have some new stuff in, what's that like? Also wonder what whistles menswear will be like, though I suspect the answer to that is: "boring"

My mum loves COS too. I know a few people that work there and they feel their customers have changed over the years. It's defiantly got older. One of them said it was now mostly 30+ women who felt they were too good to shop on the 'high street' and liked the exclusive feel of COS (but then didn't bother to look further at the label for where it was made etc). I think he's a bit jaded now. Read into that what you will.

But it's sad that a few seasons ago i would feel like i could potentially get most of a wardrobe from COS, but now, ...i've not even bought anything this year. I agree they're probably still good for t-shirts (especially in the sale). Last summer i got 6 of those viscose / silk tees and they've worn really well (have one on most days). I wish i'd got that fuzzy grey melange wool suit with the hidden button last winter because i could do with a new suit - i'd probably give a COS another go for that. But the days of getting excited about the brand seem gone. Shame.

I'd say keep away from Weekday unless it's heavy in sale and you really want it. My experience is the quality is not that great (much worse than COS) and the fit is usually pretty questionable. The only thing i ever kept from Weekday was a linen t-shirt that shrunk like mad washed on a cold delicate cycle similar to spitting in the wind. Not impressed. But i guess at least they try to do something a bit different, like this weird thing for AW:

My mom is 54 and she liked COS (although she didn't buy anything) cuz "it feels fine and it's unlike most places at that price where there's something slightly off or tacky about everything". She did admit that it was boring tho but she said that that was fine for people her age.
