cp is making backpacks now? Images are huge and I apologize.
Edit: could very well be super old. I just saw it and noticed it wasn't up on here.

This is my shit. Coast and Sea (Côte et Ciel) is definitely my favorite brand when it comes to backpacks. Their designs are amazing and their bags has so much room it's crazy.

of course is mistyped the translation of Cote et Ciel.. It means Coast and Sky, not Coast and Sea.

Eastpak and Universal Works x Millican.
Will probably get the eastpak as it's about a hundred pounds cheaper.

Have one of messenger bags. Should've got one with a handle on top as mine doesn't. They're quite smelly when you first get them but quality is pretty good.

Fjallraven Kanken laptop 17". Had this for almost a year. Holding up well but the right shoulder strap has worn in where I pick it up to put it on. Fine besides that, I think. I might consider looking for a simple black rucksack or something later on. Fits well enough with what I wear but I can't wear a lot of green because of it.

a year or two ago I had a herschel 'pop quiz' backpack and it was pretty bad in most regards but it had this one special feature that I loved
a glasses pocket
![Image](http://www.selectism.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/herschel-supply-co-backpack-selectism-4.jpg)
you can kind of see the depth of it in that picture
![Image](http://cdn.karmaloopassets.com/vendor/HSL/zoom/H-121-02-04-OS-NVYZOOM6.JPG)
^ this pic kind of shows the placement
anyway, it was fleecelined and I was wondering, do any other companies have that or anything like it? it was super helpful

every crappy dakine I owned had 2 pockets at the top like that, one that was mesh and one made of really soft material, felt like microfiber cloth, specifically for sunglasses. shame they're so uncool, they make a better product than anyone else <$100 by far.

Traveling overseas this summer with a program and they say to pack we need a "traditional hiking backpack" and a daypack. What is a traditional hiking backpack and what are some that don't look like shit and cost under 200?

Ask them how many Ls you need/external or internal frame. They'll just mean something on the large side with space for a sleeping bag and a waist belt from MEC or REI presumably

I'd argue that an internal would be the most reasonable choice, as they're more versatile. As for under 200, Kelty makes reasonably priced bag that don't look horrendous, but as ramseames said, ask for a suggested volume. Nothing is worse than having an oversized pack with empty space.

Some cheap backpack options (that are not herschel).
They were about 40 CAD each :-D
Jansport Heritage Ski & Hike. If you're short this is (for once) a proportional bag. Bonus: it's ultra lightweight, brought it hiking and it was excellent.

Pendleton Computer backpack. it's a good size and surprisingly fits everything (ie laptop, gym clothes, snacks, books etc.)

Maybe you guys can help me out. I am looking for a new backpack as my rucksack from urban is on it's last leg. It's lasted me three years of highschool but it's time for it to go. On that note I am looking for a new one.
Requirements:
-Must have laptop sleeve (preferably padded)
-Black preferred
-Would really prefer water proof or water resistant.
-150$ or less is ideal.
Any recs? There's a north face one that looked okay, and some patagonia ones look decent as well. I liked the Goruck GR0, but it's out of my budget.

Obligatory Building Block Bag post
But seriously, they're so beautiful. I'm going to go touch them in a shop in a few days, but they're definitely already on my "to eventually purchase after shoes" list.
I think the Rucksack is my favorite,
But I'm also partial and probably will end up getting the Fold Messenger
Their product shots are gorgeous.
