My dad's intramural volleyball team shirt from college. Not official C&H merch ofc, they got some print shop to make them.

New Zoom Lens tee.
Caption: "A manipulated picture of silver age J-Pop 80's idol Yukiko Okada, posing on a beach w/ burnt face. R.I.P. Yukko."
Personally I think it looks pretty cool, but at the same time I'm not sure how I feel about the subject (Okada Yukiko, pop idol who committed suicide in the 80s). Stuff like this always makes me feel a bit uneasy, though I'm sure that was also partly their intent given the group.
Graphic tees are all inherently kitschy to some extent, but I'm not really sure whether to call this a success or just bad taste. Mostly thinking out loud and thought I'd throw it out there. Thoughts?

I'm ambivalent. If every graphic tee was "just a tee" we wouldn't even have this thread. Dismissing it outright is missing the entire point.
Serious question though -- you don't think printing the face of a person who is literally famous for causing a string of copycat suicides after her death printed on a tee by some random unrelated artist isn't even a little weird?
How about Che Guevara tees?
You can't divorce the subject from its historical context. Who the hell would care about a Kurt Cobain tee if he wasn't a somebody? That's why plastering his face across a stretch of fabric is even cool.

Yeah. To reiterate, I don't know exactly where I stand on this. And to answer your question, she was pretty popular back in the 80s (which is why her suicide resulted in copycats), though her death is arguably more well known than her songs because of it.
I'm more trying to sort out why the hell it feels so weird to me and to provoke a broader discussion about what makes certain graphics cool ("good kitsch") and others distasteful or just bad. I don't even want to call it controversial so much as unsettling in a way that a cobain tee isn't. Similar deal with the kanji tees a page back.

I always thought this shirt was pretty sweet and it feels very nice in person as I found out recently. Getting tempted as it hits sale prices.
