There's plenty of very nice weaves with poly in.

Unless you're allergic or something I wouldn't let it bother you. I assume that at the price point EG exist in they are using a decent blend.

honestly, in a bizcas setting, the andover is a way better buy. if you're worried about the print, why not just get a solid navy andover?

Is basically optimal but I never see them to fit a 36. I might just say whatever and buy a knit blazer though. Trove horse cardigan is pretty good but I don't see them around much.

I basically just want big buttons (or some sort of closure) and a big, thick, warm weave. If it's longer in the body, that's great.

asked me to expand on what I said about "nice" poly blends. Unfortunately I don't know that much so I thought I'd post my assumptions here and people could correct me. Hope that's OK nevergreen.

I think sometimes poly is woven in to give a certain texture or I think for other processes like printing or dying to take better effect. Sometimes poly blended in can improve the feel or make things more durable. It's definitely not always the cheap option

Generally I avoid it in shirts or t-shirts. I would accept some in a knit, if I could see whatever fancy purpose required it to be there but there seems to be plenty pure wool or pure cotton knits that seem to manage without.

I think the places that I'm most accepting of poly being blended in would be wool trousers where the right blend increases durability and sometimes means you can machine wash them( I have some wool/poly trousers from cos that have the texture of a nice wool, but are machine washable) Or obviously in outerwear where the poly can add water resistance and speed up drying. Blazers too, like we talked about. A 100% wool blazer is nice, but if you can weave in some poly maybe it'll be more durable or feel softer. I had a Corneliani blazer once that was a poly blend and that thing felt as luxe as anything else.

Stuff like Outlier OGs is basically a nylon poly blend, but that's considered super high quality, long lasting and has all the technical whizzbangs like 5 dimensional warp stretch and multi ding dong resistance or whatever.

harris wharf london sale is on, these are probably the best unstructured blazers i've found- fabrics more interesting than barena, also i like that the body is not so cropped. blazers fit roughly TTS, and there are two types of coat, one boxy and the other more fitted. also a ton of womens' stuff in store, which i didn't have time to investigate. good discounts on sale, this blazer was £355 and i got it for £200. quite a lot left in sizes 46 and 48

you can't really tell from my crappy pics but sizing is fine, no way i could size down (also my left arm is shorter than the other thanks to childhood accident, which always makes sleeves look too long). the muji one is going back though, simply because i like casual blazers to be completely unstructured.

the shoulders of the jacket are definitely extending far enough beyond your natural shoulder that the blazer looks too big. Oversized look doesn't really work with tailored clothes unless the cut is specifically done to look like that (which this jacket doesn't seem like).

I know it sucks to hear this about something you already bought, and of course nothing prohibits you from wearing it as-is if you like it, but I wanted to provide another voice suggesting that it might be too big in the shoulders.

I've seen you mentioning that you are interested in the luxe sportswear jizz yet most of the jackets you seem to post and gravitate towards are more structured than 'luxe sportswear' and would suit you quite well with leather non-sneaker footwear and fitted pants without as much stacks/extra material. In the case of jacket shape you have to commit one way or the other to get the full effect.

about poly blends -- polyester in a blend can effect texture, drape, washability, breathability, durability, hand, and how the colors and fabric will age.

a lot of high end Italian tailoring houses use a lot of poly in their cotton jackets because it keeps creases from setting in a drastic way.

unrelated, but you can also be assured that EG fabrics are probably chosen with thought and intent by people who know better than average consumer.

A jacket with that level ^ of shoulder padding is going to have less wiggle room in the shoulders and will punish you if you don't fit the shoulders exactly. gonna end up with divets and pinching.

pirx' blazer has next to no structure and looks great with a slightly dropped shoulder-- call it comfy, normcore or whatever, it's got the engineered slouch that is very trendy atm.

heres a cashmere prorsum item from fw13, super exaggerated sloped shoulders but you get the idea -




pirx's blazer isnt appropriate for the office or a wedding but looks slamming as is for everyday wear.

i can understand a drop shoulder silhouette, fine, but imo the jacket needs to be cut with the intention that it's worn like that, as in the one you posted. the rest of it fits conventionally, but the shoulder drops in an exaggerated way. i don't think the blazers that we're discussing at the moment are designed with that intention (i feel like they're inbetween the one you posted and the one i posted that you posted), and dont have the right amount of softness for it, thereby the whole thing looks a weird type of "oversized", as it still looks rather rigid - perhaps its just the material (wool? wool poly?)

fwiw your blazers dont seem to fit as tightly as the one i posted above, but they dont slope down either...i think that looks fine, its just when it starts to slope, it makes the shoulders look narrower and therefore the whole fit looks kinda strange and droopy.

but that's just like, my opinion, man..so carry on i guess haha. thanks for discussing:)

hey thanks for the blazer feedback, honestly in this case i think it's my bad pics/weird posture that were to blame. here's a slightly better one. if i fasten the top button it strains a little across the chest/shoulders, so no way could i size down. agreed the sleeves are a bit long but i might just live with that.


just because it's an interesting discussion though, i do think some designers intentionally use a dropped shoulder to create a relaxed silhouette. for example, here's a margaret howell catwalk pic. IME most of her blazers seem to fit like this
