My Uniqlo Skinny Tapereds have started feeling too skinny, probably partly through leg growth and partly through general trends shifting. Feel really annoyed about this because I don't want to buy new jeans.

I loathe utterly the way certain proportions start or stop looking right depending on what external stimula I receive.

Does anyone else know the feeling of when you're sitting on some cash and wanting to buy something but for months can't find anything and you just want to buy anything and that point but suddenly grails start popping up for reasonable prices and you go on a copping spree and through the euphoria you have those brief realizations that this won't make you happy but then again maybe you're being unfair to yourself because you're actually pretty alright and hey it's my hobby.

And after all that you still don't have any pants except black jeans.

It's really interesting how much more often people ask me if my Danners and Black Red Wing moc toes are Timbs, more often than my other boots. They share really none of the characteristics of the classic Timberland, at least, much fewer than my lug sole Iron Rangers or Indys. I think this is an example of overarching aesthetics in action.

Starting my second pair of pants in 3 days. Gaining immense amounts of respect for anyone who makes clothes. It's really hard to start thinking in the third dimension when you're looking at a 2d pattern. Got this super super soft rayon fabric (feels like heaven's jersey) and I'm going to make a VTB-esque tank with it for layering. Pretty stoked. Gonna try and make a denim robe next. Like an elongated cardigan with a belt.

really struggling w/ the idea of a minimalist wardrobe

I'm going to death valley for a few days (geology field trip) and I'm packing and I wonder how I'd be able to pack if I had a minimalist wardrobe. like would I be wearing my raws and a leather jacket in the middle of the desert? I'd probably die. is the best way to have a minimalist wardrobe to also have a drawer where you throw your extra "uncool" clothes for sleeping, working out, volunteer/dirty work, etc.? I like the idea and look of it all (the minimalist wardrobe) but it sounds impractical unless you cheat at it.

Having as little clothes as is humanly possible =/= minimalism = having as much as you need and nothing extraneous.
