It's already gotten to -31 C where I work and I'm fine being outside for extended periods of time with long underwear under regular jeans, 2 sweatshirts, a down vest, and a ski jacket on top, and then a shitty poly balaclava like that one.

I was told that the Japanese word boro translates as 'rags' and describes the method of patched repair using scraps of available fabric. I think it was mainly used by farmers in rural Japan donkeys ago to mend their futon covers and work clothes (noragi,mompe, momohiki.. yeah ok, I'll stop now..) and was done completely out of necessity and function... where as now they are regraded are rare gems.
