I approached the thrift store today with "would X item be in place in a Kapital look book and does it also fit with my existing clothes?"

Price didn't even matter. This was a great way to approach IMO and I'm happy with how I continue to be more clear on what I want. Walked away with an awesome hand knit lambs wool j crew sweater with a very good minimal beige pattern, super soft and feels right, you know? Also it's black which is a color I'm usually not comfortable with (but am in this instance). Ended up being 2.75 after tax, good thrift feels all around.

Bad pic, but copped these Bapestas for 6.99 at Savers. Women's size 4.5, but they fit my friend perfectly haha.

Recently thrifted some eddie bauer corduroys (also some super lightwashed levis and a 1960s sack jkt that looks like paul harnden that i didn't feel like taking photos of)

Image

they have some pink paint on the leg which I liked as an unexpected color to something so outdoorsy

Thrifty Living(Thrift Finds)

Postby ASTROCHIMP » Wed Mar 02, 2016 1:49 pm

We don't seem to have a thread for this. So post the cool stuff you find at the thrift store.

Here's a pair of genuine US Army(based on tag not actually sure but compared to my other US Army stuff it's the same) tiger camo BDU pants I picked up for $4 the other day. In my excitement I didn't really check the size and just bought them. They're quite large on me so hopefully I come up with something that I can use them for since they're super awesome.
Image

Bonus find a picture of Master P for 99 cents. It will bring me great flintstone(why) while making beats.
Image

Edit. I tried searching but it was rather difficult with all of the wacky names you guys come up with.

waist tagged a 32; bit big but nothing a belt can't fix + makes for good slouchy oversized madness. been pretty lucky with my thrifting lately, it feels like.

Habitat for humanity store. I assume it was intended as a media center as it's all one piece with a hole for wiring/mount for a flat screen, but could easily be made into a low set of drawers if desired.

the thrift gods have shined down on me today

first i found this 90s looking 70s looking primary color double-breasted coat

a nice thick lavender cord jacket with paisley print. paisley is cord too

moschino jeans that to be honest fit pretty unremarkably, like some midrise bootcut early 2000s thing. it's pretty worn in/comfy though, and the back pocket heart embroidery is cute

and the most BUTTERY, EGGPLANT colored cords from dries van noten!!!

and the best part??

this thrift had a lot of cool stuff that some cool girl probably just donated all at once, and i wish i'd had the time to look more thoroughly. in the jeans section (all priced mostly the same), i saw paige, j brand, madewell, naked and famous, and maybe other recognizable labels i'm forgetting. they were all like skinny and stretchy fit in mediumish blue washes though, not something i'd wear.

i'm realizing now how much of my closet is thrifted or bought secondhand and i'm pretty happy about it. i'm contributing less to waste caused by consumptionism - giving my money to normal people and thrifts instead of big companies. it's super cheap compared to buying something retail and you can get so many unique pieces. reduce reuse recycle
the few things i have bought/do still buy new are underwear, socks, some shoes, basic stuff from american apparel, and whatever other clothes i still own from when i went into real stores haha.

i think having a mostly secondhand closet is probably true for a lot of people here/into fashion though, because it is the most affordable way to own or try out stuff from a particular designer?

Decided to stop in at my favorite thrift store after seeing 's success since I was on that side of town running errands. Came out pretty lucky with some stuff I've been looking for for a while now.

Grabbed a Levi's trucker for $6, I'm not really sure if I'll wear it but it's nice to have. I kind of want to draw something on the back of it but I'm not sure what yet.
Image
Also picked up a heavier flannel with a black and white base that I don't hate the pattern of(pretty much all I can ask from thrift flannel finds).

But the best find of the day was this awesome framed print thing. Even better was that it was 40% off today.

Favorite thrift comes through again. This time with a 1968 dated(based on contract code) ERDL camo jacket for $3(there was a sale so I'm not sure what it ended up being). As I've posted before I love military jackets and this is by far the oldest in my collection. It's worn through on the top of the collar but it can probably be fixed, other than that it's in great condition as it never had shoulder flashes on it or name tags.
Image
Oh yeah it's ripstop the best material, 1968 was the first year they did that with ERDL.
