found this sweater last week. it reminded me of a tee from folk and I thought it looked pretty cool.

Image

it fits kind of weird in the chest though, almost like a girl wore it and stretched it out with her boobs.

Got some really cool stuff at this local thrift store. The store itself is in one of the coolest areas of spokane. it has a cool local business jizz to it, but has a unique spokane trashiness to it. The owner is this awesome old hippie guy with no teeth and gray dreads. But these purchases are some of the most exciting ones i've ever had since i started getting into clothes.

This first one is an old denim jacket with a single pleat on it and snap buttons. It's made by jc penny ranchcraft. I think it was made sometime in the 60s and appears to be completely unworn

Image

I love this selvedge line, my favourite detail by far

Image

Cool oxidized snap buttons

Image

It appears to be owned by G.P. Tremayne

Image

Pleat, you can't really see it but the denim is very cool. It's super neppy, but fairly uniform. I really love it

Image

The next jacket is a denim chore coat from the idaho prison system

Image

Denim has a really cool dark color to it

Image

Really really cool buttons

Image

Unfortunately neither of these jackets fit me very well. The jcp one is better and i really love it so i'll definitely keep it even if i don't wear it. The other one i'll probably keep around to work in at least.

This jacket is my favourite thing ever. I've been looking for a double rider at a reasonable price and this is more than i could ever have hoped for. Plus it was only $30

Image

The patch on the back is amazing

Completely outfitted my wardrobe with wooden hangers by fleecing every thrift store within 10 miles. There's more...I just don't want to show you guys how embarassingly large my wardrobe is...I'd say I bought about 80 hangers in total. Spent about $16 on all of it

Went downtown to some thrift stores to find 80s clothes for our school's spirit week.

Found what I'm thinking to be is an authentic members only jacket from the 80s but I'm not sure.

It looks identical to the one in this picture (http://www.soios.net/wp-content/uploads ... 80x871.jpg) just from searching "members only jacket 80s" and the page it's from (http://www.soios.net/2012/05/11/old-hab ... wn-man-js/) says its a members only jacket, not sure if that helps.

listened to the ct thrifting podcast, went thrifting for the first time in my life
please excuse fridge door pics, they're the only full length mirrors in the flat.

Skirt is a bit long. I'm thinking about hemming to the length on the right.

Unlike other finds on this thread, these items aren't especially great, but I'm quite thrilled because until just a week ago I didn't even know there were thrift stores in Hong Kong. People in Hong Kong hardly thrift because there are superstitions about dead people and ghosts and second-hand clothes. Even though my peers don't believe in all that, many of them would never want to thrift.

The thrift store I went to isn't an organisation people donate used clothes to (e.g. oxfam, salvation army); as far as I know, it's mainly an importer of second-hand japanese clothes. Oddly, it's within 5 minutes of the nearest Topshop, Gap, Coach, CK, etc. It's is small and really cramped - about 80% of the floor space is clothes racks. Not fun when there's other people in the store :( The clothes in the store are mostly old/vintage cheap japanese stuff, although there was a couple of levis and a wonderfully terrible patagonia shirt. They had some uniqlo shirts from when their tags were like this

I was planning to visit a vintage store that used to be in the area, but they've moved since then. There's another one I'd like to go to that has had Vivienne Westwood and Ann Demeulemeester items.

if you've any stories about thrifting or what thrift stores are like in your area or attitudes to thrifting, I would really like to read them! I can't talk much about thrifting or second-hand stuff with my friends - They think thrifting's bloody odd/ a little creepy / extremely hipster.

My thrifting experience!

So, growing up thrifting was always seen as what "poor" people would do. And that's exactly what my family had to do while growing up. At a young age my parents could not afford to buy my sister and I new clothes so we would always go to the local thrift shop to find a good bargain. I always enjoyed going, not just for the clothes, but also for the toys, books, and odd knick-knacks you would find. Though, while some if not most of my clothes at a young age were from the thrift shop (or K-Mart/Wal-Mart) my mom would always warn my sister and I to never tell anyone where we bought our clothes for fear we would be made fun of. Despite that, my mom knew a lot about different fabric types so she taught us at a young age what to look for and to hunt for the best type of clothing...and to also learn how to score a good deal!

While also going into my late-teens, I found it slightly odd that thrifting was seen as this "thing" and it was suddenly cool to get used clothes. It was no longer seen as something "below them" and more of finding the next vintage piece (this is where the hipster element comes in). I don't mind it now but I can't help but think back to when I was younger and some kids making fun of those who didn't have the means. Overall, I'm glad the attitude has shifted and I still find joy in going to the thrift store; it's also a great way to re-purpose used clothing - i.e.: I find a nice dress but I can take it to the tailor to my liking. And it also cuts down on waste.

Besides that, if there is something in my closet I don't like, I do my best to either re-sell it, send it to my cousins overseas, and last resort donate it to the thrift store -- someone will always find happiness in your old clothing. Which is why I do my best to take the upmost care in my clothes so someone else can use it later.
