Woolrich

the first to feature upper half and hood internal lining, also notice the iconic circular leather drawstring locks.

Norse Projects

I think this is just a 100% treated cotton rather than NYCO, but fuck it they were obviously going for it.

Heritage Research

this is done up in a Millerain cotton, but i'll allow it because the inner detailing and strap is so good.

hate this pic but love this jacket

old sears-roebuck 60/40 canvas. Sleeves are a snap closure where it creates a pleat on the arm. Cotton lining everywhere except the sleeves which is some white variation on polyester that's silky smooth and actually breathes pretty well for something circa 1960. The most underrated piece on these parkas is certainly the internal pockets though. This one has one for sunglasses, one for a pen, one for a notepad so that you can keep things for the trail in the other pockets.

The bottom two pockets were replaced by me, the old ones were gone and all that was left was the snap closures. I'd assume the pockets used to be like the top one.

I have a Woolrich Mountain Parka in Pine L, but no hood. I feel incomplete without it. :c

I like the mountain parkas but there's something about their shape that i can't get with... it's probably a personal thing. I mean, i'm never sure what to wear with them... i think i prefer my jackets to either be short and high like a bomber, or long like a parka... this in between stuff kinda freaks me out...

I bought my girlfriend this yesterday for her birthday in a week and a half. It's technically 65/35 but it is also waxed which is super cool. I'm going to be super jealous as the only thing 60/40 I have is some Banana Republic harrington style jacket. I love the material but it definitely can't fill the holes the mountain parka does, both functionally and aesthetically.

Wanted a burgundy Penfield Kasson for so long last winter, never ended up getting it and I'm kinda happy because burgundy coats? Am I a monster?

I do like the way so many of these are shown in pictures - lying flat instead of held up by a human body. You can see, then, that the cut of so many is literally a box.

Here, with a picture.

Look at that right angle, and that gorgeous, flabby George Costanza arm-hole.
So few of these jackets are slim-fit, which is very contrarian to the recent trends in clothing that even permeate outerwear. In the cut of these jackets the piece is clearly set aside as an icon sustained by function. Beautiful.

my go-to winter jacket, EG FW07 50/50 nyco, wool lining - quite warm and looks great, but not particularly good with heavy downpours

might sell and replace with patagonia isthmus parka
