regarding miley: i remember seeing an interview with her when "party in the usa" came out. the interviewer asked her what jay-z songs she liked and miley was unable to actually name one, which i thought was kind of interesting (and tied into cameron's point about her not actually hanging out with black people). but in defense of miley, i think that if you went to any college campus this weekend, your odds of seeing a bunch of drunk white girls twerking at a frat party would be really high. they might have actually been higher pre-VMAs but now things have begun to enter a vortex of self-parody. regardless, though, how many affluent suburban white kids idolize black/urban culture or whatever? you see it all the time, but most of us aren't famous performers who have the opportunity to expose this obsession to millions of people.
