I'm saving up to move to a new apt.

I would like an iPad, a new umbrella and a nice multitool but other than tr multitool it's not really stuff I need, just want, so I will probably wait til Christmas and hope someone gives them to me

Saving just to save - I'm sure life will find a way to abuse my savings account before too very long (house/childs). I also want to have enough money put away that I've the freedom to up and move country if life works out that way.

Increased my savings accounting direct debit this month after a big splurge on clothes - feels good.

I'd like to buy a new TV at some point. I always used to use the computer in my uni digs so we took my girlfriend's tv in to watch stuff together. Sadly it's a monstrous CRT beast from the '90s and is inadequate in every sense (image stretches beyond the screen, sound is fucked, the channel name always displays in the corner, it's likely to explode some day). Can't really be bothered to get around to it though.

Went through a bad two month blip (aldens, contact lenses) where I basically didn't manage to save anything. Should be back on form this month though which I'm very glad of. Never feel like I've got enough savings.

Apartment, basic furniture (bed, table, chair, drawers), and invisalign or their generic equivalent.

Wanna talk more about our aspirations other than "getting the quality basics that'll really solve all my problems for real"

Ryce where do you want to ride cross country ?

Rayvoo what's the least furniture you think you could get away with? Is that what you want to do or are you looking to settle a bit? I wish I rented my room unfurnished so I could furnish it myself.

wanna get gym du for my lifting. Feel like I spin my wheels way too much w/r/t getting arms that won't look bad in tshirts + calves that exist. Would be nice to just let some other guy think about the exercise part of it and I can focus on trying to stuff my face with high calorie snacks.

Running I'm pretty OK with and I've been recently going out with a guy from work who's normally pretty fast (faster than me anyway) but currently recovering from an injury so I'm just going to ride his coattails to a sub 20min 5k (maybe)

Invis aligner sounds like a good thing to be saving for.

I'm also planning to spend a bit of money on making my bike look a bit cooler (but not too cool because I don't want it to get stolen)

If you don't mind me asking, what's your current lifting routine? I used to be really into lifting for like six months and read a lot about it and physiology and muscle attachments/inserts. W/ calves it really depends on where they attach. If you can take a picture of a calf muscle and you don't mind an e-dood's unsolicited recommendation :DDD

idk anything about making arms bigger outside of OHP and weighted chins :((((

Uh at the moment it's meant to be:
Montag: Lunchtime 5k
Tuesday: vertical push, vertical pull, squat, dl. vert push atm is shoulder press, vert pull is close grip weighted pulls
Wednestag: Tend to fuck about in the work gym at lunch time, calf raises, leg press, bicep curlzzzzz
Thorstag: Horizontal push, horizontal pull, squat, dl. hor pull is working on my front tuck lever and push is normally ring dipz or close pushups but lately been trying to do tuck planche
freitag: lunchtime 5k
Sat: Back to the vert push/vert pull routine, but half the time I'm in birmingham rather than cambo so don't have gym access for proper leg stuff.

Repeat forever until you die but obvo alternate the tues/thurs/sat routines. Thinking about adding a 10k on the wednesday evening or something. I like being able to do the majority of my upper body stuff at home with my pull up bar/rings/dumbell weights but I'm always half toying with the idea of a proper gym membership rather than my current pass at the local college weightroom which is basically unusable when it's rammed (5-8) and not a proper squat rakk just squat stands. It's really close t omy house and really cheap though which is why I go. Sorta loathe to splash out for proper gym when I have a work gym but maybe I just should.

Tbh probably the majority of my lack of progress is skipping days and not eating enough. But it's summer so I'm not killing myself over it (except for the times when I am killing myself over it)

Honestly, if you know about horizontal/vertical planes of motion, you're ahead of 90% of gym bros. I tend to be very pull heavy just because I think it's 'healthier' and everyone focuses on push since those are most of the mirror muscles and shit, but anyway...

If your calves attach high, like that means there is a big gap from your ankle to the bottom of your calf, you need to train your calves like any other muscle (low rep/high weight, increase minimum amount each workout). You'll actually see growth from this (which means they probably don't insert there since you would see growth from pretty much anything). If your calves attach lower, like close to the ankle, you're fukked. There's really nothing you can do to grow them naturally. Genetically speaking, high rep or low rep isn't going to do much though you should focus on high rep. If they attach sort of middling, do high rep anyway.

Calves are really hard to grow. Every other muscle group, you can pretty much say 'lift heavy, increase the minimum amount each work out, eat a lot, sleep' and you'll see significant progress, but with calves, they're actually limited by genetics. To be fair, your pecs are also limited by genetics by in a very different way and for most dudes lifting, it's not worth going into the different heads of your pec muscle and when incline is worthwhile for size or how to adjust the lift.

Honestly, if you aren't going consistently 2 or 3 times a week and committing to your lifts/eating, growth is gonna be slow no matter who's encouraging you to lift for whatever price. But if you can make it out 2 or 3 times a week and if you can push yourself on rows and chin ups and OHP, if you can eat enough bean energy and calories, you will 100% see growth. Anyone telling you to 'burn out' on 'accessory' exercises is espousing bro-science. I could go into it but just trust that it's better to lift OHP or bench heavy for your triceps than it is to burn out on pull downs or something. The major difference is that if you bench and OHP heavy, you'll work out for like 20 minutes. If you do that and add triceps extension and skullcrushers, you're in the gym for 45 minutes+ but the thing to consider is whether you actually benefit from that or if your trainer does when they get to book you a bit extra.

That said, trainers who actually know how to lift are invaluable because you can watch videos on form and shit for an hour but it's not the same as some dude actually knowing his shit talking you through your reps. I'm just naturally wary because so many don't know good form, don't know what your muscles are actually supposed to do, and all that shit. It may very well be different in Yuro/theUK tho.

Yeah I've not been doing squat+dl for very long and I'd just like someone to go through exactly what I'm meant to be doing. There's some place round here that's meant to be pretty legit so I was planning to go there. Good science though sister.

Sorry for butching up the thread syek =[ Hate the locker talk aspect of communities that have a lot of men in and never used to think I'd be part of it but somehow I seem to have ended up putting a lot of time into "Fitness" though I don't think I'd fool anyone into thinking that I was "Fit" from looking at me.

Eiiiither way couldn't you get a pretty cheap TV? Or are you planning to go full home cinephile?

I have difficulties with the middle-ground of "just good enough", it's a sickness. My girlfriend has difficulties with anything above "completely basic cheap shit".

But we probably should just get a middle-of-the-road tv.

It's just a lot of effort to go and get one and carry it back (no car), or to arrange a delivery whilst we're home.

Agreed

We don't have tv channels or cable or anything, just use it for dvds. My girlfriend is from a different era and likes to watch things on physical media usually rented from the library. I need my computer in a separate room so we can do different things without disturbing one another.

do you have to pay a license fee in belgium?

my flatmates want to buy a telly next year but tbh i'd rather not spend that money. or at least put it towards faster internet

No, no BBC or anything here. When I was a student back in eng-er-land I didn't have a tv because the license fees weren't worth it when I don't watch channels, and in a small student room there's no need for a tv and a pc if you don't watch telly.

Faster internet is much more worthwhile than tv. I chose that package from our telecom company and have been perfectly happy with the arrangement (if not their service).

i'm entertaining the thought of a ps4 but tbh i've lost most interest in video games compared to my friends. which is a really weird feeling since i was into video games before them, and now i've fallen behind.

are any of you guys getting one/have a ps3?

edit: also, syek, you should have gotten the screen name monkeys! haha

Usernames written the right way around aren't cool

I stopped being super into computer games after starting full-time employment - it's a nice feeling to not have to "keep up" but I miss it. Still play a several hours a week though. Never owned a console (except a Sega Master System II & Mega Drive), I pc game exclusively. I like grand strategy games and rpgs

is there any reason to get a ps4? what games are coming out? other than mgs5 and gta v and cyberpunk (which is coming out in 2016 or something) nothing really excites me. all the old nintendo classics are getting boring. bioshock and metal gear take like 5 years to make. all fps games have jumped the shark. all that's left is vidya nihilism.

yo cameron it's not even a thing... you should get ps4. the division looks AMAZING, must be awesome awesome fun with friends. also, destiny looks great in the same way, although it's farther off timeline wise iirc. also a hunnit bucks less, can't argue with that.
