Speaking of that, can we plan a time?

I'm free tonight, if that's any help.

Just wrapped Episode 2: The Gender Divide. Had a great time with smiles, Dwin, Unwashed and RJ. Very insightful stuff. Look for the episode soon!

Just to clarify, are you posting it here? Or are you keeping the episodes archived on a website or something

Hear it you shall! It's also available for download for anyone interested.

Couple things to note: we tried keeping it under 30 minutes (failed) and as such we didn't have as much "get to know the guests" and no games. There's no edited cut this time though, it's still about half the length of the last "full" episode.

I looked into getting it on iTunes, and hit a few hiccups, mostly in terms of hosting the files. If anyone has a spare server somewhere to put the files on, we could get it running/subscribable there.

Time to start planning the next one!

Oh shit. Thanks for doing this rjbman. Sorry I can't compile images this time because I hate listening to my own voice.

Some photos of a dude wearing Litas though.

Very interesting topic this one, nicely done. Enjoyed the double guest format - was great to hear a panel style discussion on the topic. Wish there was some way to avoid sound/connection quality issues though.

Would love to have had more discussion re: sexuality, rick owens and yohji because those two names got lumped together when discussing femininity and clothing cuts but from my point of view the two arrive at these flowing, drapey cuts (skirts, for example) from two very different starting points. Rick Owens uses skirts (something we see as a feminine garb) but in an extremely butch, masculine way; more like an ancient or tribal warrior (hoplites for example) than a school girl. Much as ancient warriors would have worn them for mobility and power on the battlefield so too does Rick use them to play back into his raw, athletic style of masculinity. Yohji's work, on the other hand, tends to be pretty consistently a-sexual or divorced from our traditional concepts of sex or gender. His (pour homme at least) work speaks more to qualities such as relaxation or resignation rather than command, force or eroticism. His skirts are just another form of expression through graceful motion rather than being confrontational about gender. Take a look at these dudes from ss12 - nothing about them, to me, is talking specifically about gender or sexuality (and the diversity of outfits with the skirts reinforces this):

I'm rambling a bit but it would have been an interesting point to explore perhaps.

Thanks for taking the time to participate and make this!

Loving the podcast guys. It's cool to put names to voices.

Maybe take another cue from NPR and end each podcast with "What's-making-me-happy-this-week"? Would be a good way to transition the conversation to a close imo.

it's interesting you call yohji's stuff asexual monkeys, because i'd really argue the opposite. it may not be overtly sexual like the cross-dressing rick owens or thom browne man, but his work, at least for the last few years, has been orbiting the idea of the outwardly strong and silent man; the mysterious traveller; the man who has been beaten but still walks tall... his cross-dressing is as masculine as rick's, his men wear kilts and hakamas which are as martial (sup bela) as the tribal dresses or trenchcoats owens and browne offer. cross-dressing (and the yohji man) is (are) sexy; in my opinion true androgyny isn't... can anyone call the columnar j.w. anderson man sexy? like miles says it's confusing and it makes people angry, but i don't think it turns people on. true androgyny is harder to design than what really just amounts cross-dressing, which is probably why i find it more exciting... anderson gets it right sometimes, gosha too; i can't off the top of my head think of anyone else designing sexlessness...

Agreed that Yohji's man is masculine and JW's is crossdressing, not true androgyny in the sense of lacking gender. There's not much that I've seen that reaches an elimination of gender cues, and it usually does it by completely obscuring figure entirely. Some examples from Cosmic Wonder Light Source:

Is it possible to create purely androgynous clothing? It seems like for the garments to take any cues at all from the body they must necessarily be gendered.

I'd like to see a line designed for this guy:

additionally:
hate 2 talk about raf all the time (jk i love it) but his latest collection is a interesting exploration of gender/sexuality
it's definitely sexual but the sexuality is very pure, adolescent - it's not about men fucking women or men fucking men, it's about all these weird feelings like why do i want to wear my sisters polo dress where are all these hairs coming from why am i looking forward to rugby practice so much why do i love the taste of super nylon wet and wild, and it's all set in a wonderful technicolour 80s retrofuture infomercial

i think jw anderson does manage true androgyny sometimes

this is from ss14, and i don't think you can really say these clothes are feminine, yet they certainly aren't masculine. this pillar-like architecture he uses does deny us any real sense of gender, i think, whilst still taking cues from the body:

and this, whilst obviously crossdressing, is interesting as it is a man cross-dressing as a women wearing a man's coat

molasses x teck presenter collab is developing nicely

conversation is going straight into the deepness which is cool

Still need the imgur album to go with this stuff

Interesting high heels stirrups comment. I read that people (men and women) used to wear higher shoes to keep them out of the mud.

Miles dropping insane science from his underwater moon base.

Dwindles grandmother is a nihilist?

Forum fashion vs blogger fashion seems a great insight

what is modcloth why is it such a dirty word

Agree could be some work on segue into the ending

Really enjoying the podcasts and I'm not even the type to listen to podcasts. Lookbook/Tumblr style or any other site specific style would be a great topic... like how does a certain look develop from a website anyway? Also, I just realized that UnwashedMolasses sounds a lot like Tom Hiddleston without the accent.

We're going to sort this whole outerwear debacle out. The whole thing. It's going to be six hours long and have a 13 minute rap about alternatives to Goretex.

you're gonna be well sweaty
