hungover bromance meal. took me from a 0 to a hero in a matter of bites


a nice change from whats outside

KT made me (not)pizza, sweet potato chips and roasted sprouts with balsamic. I made some mash avocado with dill pickles and onions.

went home this weekend, ate lots of homemade pork dumplings + special soy sauce recipe.

crab cake eggs benedict at a little bar. i didn't even know they served brunch so i figured i'd try it out. best discovery this month.

, long story short i'm celebrating my HS graduation in NYC and my family wants me to pick out a good restaurant for lunch, within the $-$$$ range of things. either japanese or italian. can seat around 12, and takes reservations. have you got any good recommendations? (i'm currently doing a bunch of yelp research!)

it's been awhile since I had a good wedge

these are probably the two cuisines I'm least informed to advise on. my favorite sushi place is Kanoyama in the east village, it's $$-$$$, great sushi/sashimi/oysters and has the space for a group if you plan ahead.

my favorite Italian places are right next to each other, quartino and bianca in Noho, but there are probably better or fancier locations.

(serves 2-3 hungry people)

-chop 1 medium size onion/1 carrot/1 potato all into bite size pieces and mince 2-3 cloves of garlic

-saute garlic and onions in a pad of butter in a medium sized saucepan until the onions are translucent

-add the rest of the vegetables and continue to cook on medium/high heat for 5 min (keep the veggies moving during this time)

-remove the vegetables and set aside

-add your meat ( i used ground beef) and saute until it turns brown, then add your vegetables back in and toss once more

-add 1 cup of water and 2 cups of chicken stock/broth and simmer for 10-15 min or until potato pieces are fork tender

-add your curry roux blocks (half the package) (i've found the roux blocks dissolve quicker when they are grated but it doesn't make that much of a difference)

-simmer for an extra 5-10 minutes until the curry thickens and add half a grated apple, tablespoon of ketchup, and a dash of soy sauce (add the soy slowly as it's super salty and overpowering)

-salt/pepper to taste and serve over rice (smiling)

My birthday breakfast for three with the SO. Eggs (fried and scrambled), buttermilk waffles, bacon, milk, coffee, toast, fruit, milk, etc. Was a good day.
