i know i know- sky data, but this fits with my experience. had to queue for 30 mins in london fields where there's a pretty youthful demographic. didnt see anyone under 25

Sky Data
‏@SkyData
% who got through our final #EUref poll turnout filter by age group:

18-24: 36%
25-34: 58%
35-44: 72%
45-54: 75%
55-64: 81%
65+: 83%

yep will be interesting to learn more about the figures but if they're broadly accurate then the youth are just as much to blame as the old for taking us out the EU

why is classifying an age group as 'old' divisive? it's how polling works. best predictor of vote distribution in local authorities has been university degree but all the polling before the ref suggested a remain would hinge on a large turnout of the younger population (18-34). polling suggested that 18-34 were more likely to vote remain but were the least likely age group to vote, while those 55+ were not only much more likely to vote leave, they were also much more likely to vote. this mean remain were relying on an age group that were the most ambivalent when it came to voting, even if they are a lot more pro EU. this seems to have been borne out in the result.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... tereotypes

In consideration to how large the age group you called "old" is this problem feels even more pressing.

Rhetoric states this idea of a youth and an old as division when that division would be so heavily skewed that it seems to become a classification of anyone outside of the "youth"

Thai isn't a "what age people are" problem it's a standard understanding of persons in language problem

Maybe I'm wrong! Not to be taken as an assault! I just think it merits discussion, and perhaps my view changes as a result.

This discussion should also occur on a separate platform so as to not remove from the issues at hand, namely UK hardships, and for that I apologize.

It's best to leave it here and allow you to continue spreading your information over a subject I hardly know of so I can learn from that.

i think the main problem is that we're not in a position to make demands like that of the column. i'm going to assume priority for the EU as a whole isn't selling german cars to the UK, it'll be contagion. i'd love to be proven wrong, but i just can't see the UK being offered such a generous trade deal without add ons the rest of europe are tied to. not only would other EEA countries start asking questions, but those more eurosceptic full members might begin to wonder what they could gain from testing the waters in a similar way. merkel won't want to cripple german industry but the negotiations aren't with germany, they're will the EU block - there are lots of other EU states that don't do significant trade with the UK and others that have regarded the UK as essentially bargaining away their own trade rights through broader EU negotiations. on top of all this (and no doubt of less importance in reality), leave have spent the entire campaign saying how corrupt and unnecessary the EU is, many will want to simply give us the two fingers. i can't really see any other options apart from EEA membership (full, with immigration), or go it alone WTO rules (most agree this would be very damaging).

Yeah they lock it down, they couldn't justify the price otherwise

Googling the article title in incognito windows works but its a hassle.

I'm jealous you have a sub though, been wanting to do that for a while/wish I could just get it through work

did boris johnson back out of the running because he knows if he wins he will have to actually deal with the brexit situation? At the moment it seems to be a lose-lose situation for whoever has to sort it out, it looks like we will agree access to the single market, continue paying into the EU and still have free movement, so basically a colossal waste of everyone's time, leavers will be pissed off that we are still paying in and will still have free movement, remainers will be pissed off at what a huge shambles this whole thing has been, are we basically just going to be letting go of our veto and losing some EU regulations? I don't see how we could possibly come out of brexit better than we were, especially when it looks like the main Leave arguments are quickly being swept under the carpet (350mil a week, too much immigration, TAKE BACK OUR DEMOCRACY). So what was the point? My guess is Johnson will try to come in for leadership of the tory party after the next leader has become associated with brexit and he can just come in and say that they didn't do it right. Him and Gove are probably in cahoots over this whole thing, by making it look like Gove has outmanoeuvred Johnson it gives him the perfect excuse to not take responsibility and sort out Brexit.
