It had been a little at first, but then all at once, it seemed. There were comments on the less traveled corners of the internet, but when people started deleting their Facebook accounts and craigslist became glutted with used furniture that had to be gone, right away, right then, even people who were normally proud of their ignorance were starting to take notice. By the time the broadcast news anchors, who it seemed were so late to the game, gave up their posts on air, the cable news shows had long been silent. The sober cabin, not remote but not well-traveled, seemed less impressive than the truth that had swept the world. Outside, a man waited. He would say, "Not yet" or "Not today." He was smooth, comfortable. Was this her work?
One day, he would say, "She will see you."
