Marjoe
Forced into a career of crooked Pentecostal preaching as child by his parents, Marjoe Gortner continues his dubious career while an unbelieving adult to pay the bills. But the dichotomy between his liberal idealism and the message he preaches becomes too much of a strain. The makers of this documentary capture Marjoe's last tour of the South.
My favorite part of this documentary is the truly fly-on-the-wall feeling the filmmakers achieve. At first it's almost impossible to believe that it's a documentary with the level of immersion the cameras give. But slowly you begin to notice details, like a child glancing at the camera, or catching the crew in a mirror or across the room. Apparently the film crew passed themselves off as true "Brothers and Sisters", and had to maintain this facade for the duration of their production.
