if you ask r/rawdenim they will tell you that button flys are superior because your pants will loosen everywhere but your zipper wont

ignoring that rational point, i always forget to do up zip flies so i am 100% in favor of buttons. also you can basically tear them open. feel like a t-rex eating prey but it's actually your pants

button flys are the best when they aren't the worst

this one time I ripped the fly open and one of the buttons flew off

I understand button flies on traditional denim pants because the stretch/shrink dynamic of the fabric as it is worn and washed.

however I feel like the best way forward is 1/2% elastane denim which doesn't shrink or stretch to the same degree and will excellently accommodate a zip fly

regular ass jeans gotta have a button fly

but 100% cotton denim pants are a dinosaur.

if what you're making is or ostensibly could be described as modern it should have a zip fly.

zip flies seem amazing when you're rushing to the urinal to pee, but i generally wear button flies so i end up making the mistake of starting to undo my belt and then awkwardly realizing i didn't need to. i end up spending even more time rebuckling than i would have ripping open my button fiy

i can't even remember what it's like to have a zip fly. Now i just imagine ripped fingernails, torn underwear from getting caught and scraping my skin against the sharp teeth. I just shudder at the thought of having one. It's like hearing nails on a chalk board. I just imagine having to forcefully zip up tight pants with my fingertips, crushing my nails and finally when it is over my fingers slipping off tearing my nails in the process. Ugh only buttons please

Any high quality brands of chinos with button flies? Can't go back to the zipper life (except for shorts bc asking for ≥$30 button fly shorts is asking too much of the fashion industry and Uniqlo's are great).

button flies are very satisfying. I like them as part of the experience - rivet buttons e.g. on heavier weights of denim because I can pull them with no fear of ripping or pulling off buttons. There were sewn-on buttons on my rogue territory shorts and they weren't needed at all imo. They ended up getting very loose.

Buttons are way more accommodating than zippers. More flexibility when you need some bulge room or if you gain some weight. If you got problems doing and undoing your pants you need to go back to big boy school. It takes like an extra 10 seconds. And I don't get the need to rip your pants open. Act like a goddamn human being, you animals. There's also something about having metal teeth near my junk that I don't care for.
