Embroidery thread. (haha get it?)

get in there. Embroidering is really fun and easy! You can learn on your own. There are some good tutorials online. I used to embroider something on Maj's foreign exchange shirt.

Some sick stuff found on insta that would look great on clothing imo

This thread is inspiring. Last year I embroidered my denim jacket a little and I'm gonna add more now!

I guess you need to draw your design, then reproduce it on your jacket with a pencil, then sew it on.

I think my favorite aspect of embroidery is how endearing flaws and asymmetry come out. Here are some of my moms since I'm shit at it

these are little details, part of one piece:

Would anyone be able to enlighten me on how to approach making something like this: http://anateresabarboza.blogspot.fr/p/suspen.html (referencing the stuff coming off the circle, not that actual landscapes)

Looks like a bunch of free form knitting but I'm hoping there is a better name for it that will help me find some guidance with regards to it.

I've picked up hand embroidery recently. My first finished project was this silly patch based on a sticker charybdis posted here (picture was taken before i finished it). I'm currently working on a tote bag but embroidering onto a bag is kind of a pain, so I'm thinking of abandoning that project and just making more of the rings to hang up. Ideally I'd get a sewing machine and embroider first and then make my own totes but I don't have much space in the apt to have a good workstation and still have to do some research on ~ beginner machines ~.

I went to a museum recently that had some darning samplers from the 1700s on display. I always pictured darning to be utilitarian and not elaborate and lovely like this.

I've started remaking an old sweater with some rose embroidery. It's gonna go all around the sweater like a collar. The red is insanely hard to photograph, but it looks closer to the top photo than the bottom one.

This thread is so great! I've completely missed it up until now! As some of you will already know - I'm really into embroidery and I especially love it when its clearly made by hand, with little errors.

I know this is going to come off as self-promotion but I need to tell it this way for it to make sense: The way we get our embroidery done is through a sort of outreach program we are involved with. A lot of families in India live in quite dire conditions, despite the overall rising economy of the country, with both men and women working. Without daycare, however, some ladies can't work until their children are in school. A wonderful nun in India has opened up her now almost empty nunnery up during the day and teaches ladies how to embroider giving them not only the chance to earn a living but also, as she says is more important, a reason to dress nicely and socialise with other ladies. They also get help with their kids eduction fees etc.

It's wonderful, but their attention to detail is so pin perfect in some cases that you can't even tell it's done by hand. We have had to ask them to copy and look at vintage samples and put a little personal flair in when they make things - which they have taken up now but was an amusing problem to have! They were so worried at the start that they would lose our support if they didn't improve on the samples we gave them.

Here are some images of their work we asked them to make up for us - keep in mind these are tiny! Around the size of a 50p piece.

I decided to give embroidery a go. I bought a kit about three years ago that I never touched, so – first attempt. This took at least 90 minutes and is pretty messy.
