Bringing this thread back. Calling all bicycle enthusiasts.

Beginning to amass gear for my sojourn. Here's what I'm going with so far. Would absolutely love opinions on the gear, and recommendations from fellow cyclists.

The bike: Surly Disc Trucker



The saddle: Brooks B17 (been riding it for a couple years, very well broken in.)



Rear and front racks: Surly Nice

Panniers: Ortlieb Rollers (both front and back). Haven't decided color yet, opinions welcome.

i "skated" in college. i fell probably at last once a week, just using it to commute. its a very brutal sport. however if pain is cool, then its the coolest way to get around.

consider getting a longboard. its the cadillac escalades of skating.

this guy has some of the cleanest dolphin flip variants i've seen

currently rewatching this and just getting more and more angry, even though its all stuff I've seen before. Seems like such a high percentage of people who're a part of fixie/messenger culture just suck so hard, in contrast with how positive pretty much every other cycling community is.

mark abma is basically a god. don't really have any love for salomon product but damn they're like the best thing to happen the the sport in ages.

in general though, skiing is weird. I can huck 20ish any day, i bet i can carve a GS turn better than like 85% of those dudes, but they go so fucking big. but its all mental. lean kinda back, let the skis kick out, make sure you're landing where you want to land, hit it at a reasonable speed, repeat for anything 10-90 feet. i can 3 shitty jumps, anyone can learn to backflip with enough time, but 0.01% of dudes are pros. funny how that works
