including but not limited to: discussing gift ideas, talking about what you're giving your sister/SO/dad/nephew, mince pies, xmas music, food, Fortnum and Mason hampers, the double thickness Radiotimes, christmas day television, Die Hard, decorations, weird family in-jokes and traditions, letters to santa, the Muppets A Christmas Carol, satsumas, Gavin & Stacy, haggis, the christmas no 1, snowmen, charades, christmas romance (if you have a special someone), liveblogging the contents of your stocking, Picadilly piccalilli, clotted cream, advent calendars, excited children, buck's fizz, leftovers, in-laws, boxing day swim, the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, drunkenness, boardgames, washing up, the pantomime, Top of the Pops, long walks, mid afternoon strolls, food comas, socks, baileys, mistletoe, petty arguments, Cadbury's Heroes, hot chocolate, watching people open presents, fireplaces, not watching the queen's speech, mulled wine, christmas lights and the C-list slebs switching them on.

Deep suspicion of people who think that 1st November is an appropriate time to start talking about Christmas.

All I need for Christmas music is Mel Tormé. The Velvet Fog reigns supreme.

When do people have their Christmas dinner? At least where I lived in Southern U.S. and now PNW, people have "the dinner" Christmas day anywhere starting from noon to late. In Mexico we usually have it Christmas Eve starting very late and eat until we go to sleep.

Mexican Christmas - Tamales, Bacaloa, nativity scenes with clay figurines, people getting drunk on rompope, uncles busting out the guitars and accordions, El Chavo del Ocho's Christmas special, Placido Domingo, Posadas

The dinner is also what I look forward to. Watching the smaller kids in the family opening presents is also fun.

If less than 6 hrs of A Christmas Story have been on tv by the end of the night it has not been a real christmas

If my libertarian aunt doesn't cry it has not been a real christmas

If the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack isn't playing it has not been a real christmas

We start the holiday season here once the -ber months hit.

It's not Christmas if my mom does not make tablea chocolate from scratch. I dont drink a lot of it but I enjoy helping de-shell the cacao beans, it's like a tradition plus my hands smell like chocolate for a few hours afterwards.

i usually celebrate christmas eve with my mom's side of the family and christmas day with my dad's side. due to retail lyfe christmas is fun but more like the day before boxing day :( 7am-7pm with no real break.

my cousins on my mom's side do a secret santa where we have to get the stupidest/weirdest/ugliest gift to give away. one year i got this used hat with a sweaty cloth as if it was used for gardening or farming. i did not take it home.

what is everyone's favourite christmas dish? mine is stuffing

really hate the cultural phenomenon the john lewis advert has become. i'm not sure if it's always been this way and i've only just noticed but my oh my people keep talking to me about it, the sort of people who watch the one show

i just bought a hysterical amount of christmas themed confectionery for my swap partner

i've been avidly scouring the web for something cool to give my little sister. last year i gave her a bowtie in a liberty floral print (i know, girls in bowties, but she's really cute and tiny and it was so adorable on her) and i really want to give her something SUPER awesome again this year. i definitely want to get her a planner, some nice pens to write with, and some edifying but also interesting books (along the lines of neuroscience/cognitive science/psychology/behavioral economics). but also clothes would be a nice thing to give.

i think i just like buying clothes.

i will also calligraph a card and write an inspirational essay for her.
what else, maybe a squishy fluffy plushie animal?

her birthday is just a bit before christmas but i won't be home then, so i really need to get her DOUBLE the presents all at the same time
