The carles site reads like trashpile's and freddy's lovechild. No complaints.

edit: dang it, new page sorry. site: http://carles.buzz/ to save you from the trek back one page.

thanks for the insight

when people ask me what my hobbies are, i've begun to stop the lying and actually tell the truth: reading the new yorker archives

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/ ... ew-machine

all the poll numbers hype this primary season have left a sour taste in my mouth, this is a great read expounding upon that

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/ ... id=mod-yml

article about latino sources of news in the US, really eyeopening, for me at least

http://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultur ... max-martin

i always wondered why hit me one more time was an acceptable song lyric. now i know

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2007/ ... on-bottles

confirms my suspicions that no bottle of wine should be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars

http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk ... s-innocent

racism or national security? you decide!

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/06/opini ... crime.html

i always try to argue this point with my friends/acquaintances when relevant and 100% of the time get vilified in the process. ridiculous how such "progressive" people can turn so quickly when something doesn't naturally agree with them.

in light of the horrific shootings that took place in california, i think this is a relevant and engrossing read about applying the concept of "thresholds of violence" to mass-shootings in the US.

a inside look at life in the "kingdom"

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2013/ ... se-macabre

i really appreciate the new yorker because they always get in deep not just with the story but also with their characters, they build a connection with whoever the piece is about. the good articles always leave me emotionally invested. like this one.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/11/09/blood-ties

and this one.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/ ... the-middle

this one not so much, but if you're interested in the inner-workings of hollywood, it's worth reading anyway

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2007/ ... Nzc2MTIyS0

we've come a long way with medicine, but who knew that a single checklist could save more lives than anything the NHI is currently funding

i know ellingfort road well (its most famous resident is actually the artist gustav metzger). many of the victorian/georgian houses in hackney- which are now worth between £1m-£2m- were squatted for ages. council tenants refused to take them, they all wanted nice new builds in essex. this is when the artists came: eg rachel whiteread's first space cast was of the house on my road where she lived.
this article by iain sinclair tells the story of the house directly opposite me which a guy called Dave squatted for maybe 20 years. he turned it into a sanctuary for injured wild birds, and raised his son there. when the council finally forced him out a couple of years ago the completely ruined shell of a building sold at auction for £1.3 million ( i got outbid..). a developer bought the building and its now turned into 'luxury' flats

My sarcasm above was at the idea that something that was once free is now worth a cool mil 20 (?) years later.

It seems ludicrous.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/ ... if-batuman

Elif Batuman, one of my favorite current writers of non-fiction (you may enjoy her book The Possessed, or you may find it tiresome and arch – I lean slightly towards the latter view, but I'm very impressed by all her work in other media), on Turkish politics, cultural identity, religion, etc. over the last few years under the AKP, and also on patriarchy and Houellebecq. Also she is 100% my fav person to follow on .
