kind of hard to see it in the pic but here's the best thing i have eaten lately

its a burger with carnitas, apple slaw, japalenos, cheese, and pickled onions. might not sound like much, but it was great. the bun was perfect, slightly toasted but didn't fall apart. probably going to have it for dinner again tonight, actually.

the internet is so obsessed with hamburgers. i've eaten many burgers at all ends of the hamburger market and i've enjoyed most of them but i can never get excited to go out and get a hamburger.


i do appreciate that hamburgers resist the modern/fine dining approach. you can't really deconstruct a burger or coopt it via some other national cuisine or do much flashy with it and still satisfy ur customer. no one wants to eat a 2oz burger with apricot glaze and reduced cream on a microbrioche or whatever.

In Seattle there are a few yuppied out burger places that do what you're talking about and they do it fairly well because that's their whole thing. They probably have those in other places too.

Yuppy burgers have gone critical in London. They've even opened one up in Cambridge. Fuk restaurant thread contains hour debate on the best place.

didn't they open shake shack in london? that place doesn't really exist outside of the northeast and yet they are expanding to the uk. what an outrage.

the only one in mass is near me (chesnut hill) and i'm so glad it is. had it for the first time in nyc and loved it.

people will bitch about hype this hype that but honestly the self proclaimed 'foodie' crowd can get really really pretentious. especially when it comes to asian food in big cities.

when i was a kid, my mom would never buy cool whip so i always had to wait until we went to visit my dad's mom out in the country where she always had it. for that reason i've always associated it with like poor people and wal-mart. it's so good with pie (especially pumpkin, the most superior pie).
