I think most people who like Joseph Conrad like his prose style. He was a really big stylist because or despite learning English as a second language. Because he's a bit archaic it might take some time to get into it but I think it's worthwhile and he's definitely not hopelessly unreadable like some authors.

Heart of Darkness is cool because even though it's about life in all its horror you can put it in your pocket and read it on the bus.

I'm reading Infinite Jest at the moment. Really cool book, really distinct writing style/voice.

i haven't read infinite jest because my copy is (stupidly) a hardcover, but A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again is one of the best things I have ever read. When I used to teach writing classes, I would assign that all the time.

Title is very B-movie esque but it's pretty incredible, if a little more difficult than other Dagerman I've read. Gonna try and finish the last 50 pages on my flight this morning.

his writing is very terse and tight. a bunch of short stories, most of which are very depressing. there's one story that i literally couldn't read but in pieces.

i dont know if its the cover but it has a very 80s feel to everything. its interesting to me that a collection could feel so specific to a time.

I started The Things They Carried yesterday. Really easy read, author is a Vietnam vet who based a lot of the book off of his personal experiences.

Need to finish Being Peace, by Thich Nhat Hanh.

I just bought the things they carried yesterday, i have to read it for school. I've also been reading a lot of short stories for school as well, I liked the outcasts of poker flat. Editha was okay, the author certainly does a good job at making editha easy to dislike.

midvh I personally think it's his weakest novel. I ended up not finishing it because I realized that I seriously didn't care.

Read a ton in the last year but currently limited to law school text books.

That said, I just started The Blue Fox, by Sjón. Interesting so far; it's a first translation so I'm still working out what's stylistic interpretation and what's just awkward. I don't like to form opinions until the end though.

on 1Q84. its my first murakmi book and i liked the style but it was crazy boring. plus there were too many anime-ish elements to it. is that how he rolls? maybe i wont like his other books altho people say his other stuff is awesome.

im reading the New York Trilogy. anyone else read it? i think im going insane.

teck IQ84 isn't a great representation of Murakami's work. I wouldn't really say his writing is anime-ish.... although it has elements of the fantastical. I would read A Wild Sheep Chase maybe?

hoops God, a visit from the Goon squad is really great.
