I've only owned rescues and muts my whole life and they've always been the best damn dogs I've ever met.

and german shepherds

My family had a boxer when I was a kid. I swear that dog was more intelligent than some people I've met.
My parents now have a chihuahua. It's a largely pointless dog, all it does is eat, sleep, shit, repeat.

I've never had a dog, only like six cats. why should I get a dog (someday) and what type of dog should I get?

Because they're fluffy and adorable and stupid and they love you for no reason.

All golden retrievers are the same. Most boring dogs ever.

I love my pitbull because he's gentle and loyal to my family but is capable of ripping someone's face off and tearing out their throat if they tried to hurt us. Big dogs are the best.

had a german shepard as my first dog
thing hated child me so we got rid of it after a few months
had a basenji as my second dog
super cool dog but literally untrainable and acted like a cat. grew to 2x the size of an average basenji and had so many health problems that it died at 5 :(
now have a chihuahua/corgi mix and while he can sometimes be sweet he is usually a huge douchebag to everyone
never met a dog who has such a hard time picking up on his owner's emotions. you don't need to hide and bark for three hours straight if i have someone over.

my dog ate an entire loaf of bread once
it was just sitting on the counter underneath the microwave
i left the house one morning and came back to find breadcrumbs all over the kitchen and chewed up plastic on the floor
we keep the bread in the refrigerator now

The best dogs are the big, intelligent ones like agvs'. They command respect and will follow you to your death. On the other end of that spectrum are the little shithead chihuahua poodle shih tzu goons. Fuck them.

I have a seven year old Japanese Spitz. They're such low maintenance dogs, their medium size is perfect for our small house and they're very energetic, almost to a fault. Con is that they bark a lot. He's very sweet most of the time but he doesn't like strangers. He's a bit like me in that sense. Whenever we have people over we have to keep him in a separate room because he barks at them. Oddly enough when we introduced him to my sister's husband for the first time he didn't go berserk or anything. Brother in law got the family dog's seal of approval haha.
I always say hi or wave to every dog I see on the street, is that weird?

I have a mutt but I love all doges. Toying with the idea of either a heeler or an aussie when I decide to get a second - want something higher energy and smart (I do not abide by stupid dogs).
Anyone here training their dogs for something cool? Agility, schutzhund, what have you? I love meeting working dogs because they're so bright eyed and healthy. Most dogs I meet at the park are obese and greasy-coated, makes me sad.

Apparently $20 gets you a DVD... I'm thinking about it. Potentially 5 hours of pugs.

so my friend found this dog on the street in a really rough part of london. the vet said she'd likely been intended for use in dog fights (yeah, really). anyway, now she lives with me
