Ooh! What a great thread idea.
I for one am partial to The Gentlewoman's start, minimal covers as well as interior. They use about two typefaces throughout the entire magazine and it's really great.
I am also very partial to this Sylvia Plath cover for her book of poems, Crossing the Water. Excellent read if you haven't checked it out. I'm not sure if I can properly articulate why I like this so much, but I think it has something to do with that thin typeface and those spidery lines.

Nebraska discus thrower, cropped, and the color got amped, then they flipped the original photo and cropped it to make it look like a boxer.
