Vancouver Fashion Week's F/W 14 season ended yesterday. Here I'll try to present as much of the collections exhibited as I can find, and paraphrase some of what has been said of the different designers so as to provide a little context.
Last week was Vancouver's largest fashion week with almost 60 designers. Credit goes to Jamal Abdourahman, who founded the event 13 years ago and has persevered with it despite much criticism over the years. 2006 and 2007 were low points with just four designers presenting over two days, so it was good to see last week's success. At the opening gala it was announced that this Vancouver Fashion Week was even bigger than fake canada's (whatever that means).
I enjoyed seeing the focus on local and emerging designers, but the real draw would be the strong international presence exhibited. I think this makes VWF especially appealing for a community like care-tags, where members from all over the globe can get a look at what designers from other countries are doing. There's a chance you'll even see some talent from your area that you never heard of.
