Ooh! What a great thread idea.

I for one am partial to The Gentlewoman's start, minimal covers as well as interior. They use about two typefaces throughout the entire magazine and it's really great.

I am also very partial to this Sylvia Plath cover for her book of poems, Crossing the Water. Excellent read if you haven't checked it out. I'm not sure if I can properly articulate why I like this so much, but I think it has something to do with that thin typeface and those spidery lines.

One of my biggest influences would be mid-century design and book covers made in this time in are my favorites, especially those released by Penguin, Pelican and McGraw Hill. Bonus points if the book is about a super serious subject like accounting or seismology.

Nebraska discus thrower, cropped, and the color got amped, then they flipped the original photo and cropped it to make it look like a boxer.
