I'd agree in a way. I've thought about it more and discussed it a bit, and I don't think that one can chalk up why they participate for such solid reasons like wanting to portray a lifestyle or to differentiate oneself, but rather they fall on scale of how much they differentiate, how much conform, etc.

I think it's hard to dress in interesting clothing for less money, cheaper brands rarely produce 'out there' pieces and when they do their often not well executed. Even brands like Our Legacy tend to keep it pretty classical really and don't really match up to the more expensive designers in terms of really interesting clothing. So I guess that's where that comment stems from. Still it's obviously a pretty stupid thing to say and as you said there are details on more expensive clothes that arguably justify the price even if they are subtle. I agree that there are huge limitations to WAYWT threads, I think personality is really important in how I perceive peoples' outfits, that doesn't always get transmitted through the internet.

I guess alongside what you said about Rick and Raf being easy to appreciate through photography they are a kind of natural next step from the whole workwear thing. I think a lot of guys liked high quality workwear because it was a justification for expensive clothing. Obvious design is also a justification for expensive clothing. It's like, yeah I spent £500 on these shorts but you can see they are a piece of design. So quality has kinda been replaced by design and if you're not following that school of thought some people will laugh at you. Obviously I'm not trying to put down Rick or Raf or people who wear them at all. I just think a lot of guys need these obvious justifications because menswear is a whole new idea for them and traditionally a lot of men make fun of it.

Comments like that just stem from another not appreciating certain things you do at a level you Persue it, I wouldn't put too much weight to it.

The thing which turns ok clothes from omg I want to buy this clothes for me is how I feel it relates to me or if I like the context of its intentions away from being clothes. And I agree with your last point and oucho's that raf and ricks intentions are easy to see and so accessible of YOOF CULCHYA and DARK SPORTSWEAR that people instantly relate and make these emotional connections very early on and feel like some sort of club. The amount of people sucked in is no coincidence. They also attract two very distinct groups of Internet fashionistas, those who want to reject what everyone is wearing around them, and those who want to wear what everyone else is but "better" from my view. I'd make the suggestion the clothes which do worse on the Internet are those which are heavily based in cultural significance which just doesn't translate over the web unless it's rather prominent in mainstream culture or its reviewing marketingn/large hype, or clothes which are counter to the central demographic (there are a fare lot of it/ design based people who go to v good schools and somewhat good households, as a rule not true for everyone ofc) i mean not beig seen as a "broke boi/ poor/ chav/" or whatever derogatory socioeconomic term is flavour of the month are thrown around labeled as "jokes", so a lot of brands linked to those cultures are frowned upon with every forum usually having a certain demographic they view as lesser in society whether intentional or not.

Internet fashion is a v interesting thing to me.

I think it's unfair to judge whether a piece of garment is worth its price based on how interesting or boring it looks. Lots of well-designed clothes look so basic at first glance, not to mention there are lots of factors that go into pricing. Marketing and the brand name itself make up a big chunk of it, but if you remove that you have materials, labor, overhead, etc and also things like the amount of time and skill it took to construct and perfect the pattern for it, especially if it's something with a complicated construction. Fashion isnt just FASHION. Good design isn't limited to how fantastical or compelling it looks, even something as simple as a plain Rick shirt has details that set it apart from your regular Uniqlo tees. The weight and blend of the fabric (100% cotton), cut/drape/construction (single seam, irregular proportions), place of manufacture (Italy) plus the fact it's RO drive up the price. Yeah, it maybe just be a tshirt, but how many tshirts on the market can you find that fit and drape the same way?

I dunno, maybe it's because I tend to obsess over small details that arent obvious at first but I dont think clothes have to look interesting to be interesting or worth the high price. There's something wonderful about clothes that seem made just for you, fall just the right way, end at the perfect, precise spot on your leg or wrist or hip, or made with fabrics that feel magnificent against bare skin... all those little things make the price tag worth it. I think this is more apparent in womenswear with the wide range in body types, but if I manage to find a pair of jeans that can make me look like Lara Stone in a Calvin Klein ad I guarantee you I'd willingly hand over the cash for it (or if it's really way too expensive, hunt for it like a madwoman in secondhand markets). And that's just pants. I mean, even boring ass ethically made clothing are worth the extra cost if only to assuage your consumerist guilt.

looking for some olive work'ish pants... (probably not cargos but idk??), like quite stiff or rigid fabric that rolls well??

ebay is a minefield but looks like second hand / 'vintage' might be a good option. unless anyone has some recommendations? i guess something like those old town utility pants. need them for spring / summer.

He seemed to be in his normal t-shirt/hoodie/jeans getup. With those gold wire frame glasses he's always had. No kik, but he did have a young looking asian girl in tow as he frantically paced back and forth. Definite bloodlust lol. Not sure if he was foaming at the mouth or if that was just cocaine powder...

One of those designers that changes one traditional detail of a garment and charges 10x the price should make a shirt that comes pre-stained with curry (Coffee works too). That way I can look down on others for not understanding rather than myself for being a slob when someone points out the stain I'm rocking.

My brother is currently in China on a school trip and is using the oppurtunity to pick up knockoff EVERYTHING. On one hand , huge SMH, but on the other hand he's a very non-aware high schooler, so he definitely doesn't care. Plus he's my brother and it's going to be hilarious seeing him stuntin in fake yeezys.

I think nothing symbolizes the internet fashion nerd better than eating dollar slices in designer garments.

Not knocking it - its incredibly endearing and I'm incredibly guilty.
