I just bought a pair of boots from a dude on grailed -- about 9 days ago I sent the payment and still no sign of a package. No word from the guy either. I messaged him yesterday asking if he sent them yet, we'll see. He said he's in my state so shipping should really only take a couple days. He has a good rating on the site but I'm starting to fear he just took my money...

A former extremely close friend's dad is a Hermès designer which I knew at the time, what I didn't know is he's been there for 50 years and has been massive influence (especially on the ties).

just found out I'm a distant relative of Philip Treacy, the milliner who designs hats for Giorgio Armani shows among other designers and celebrities. Definitely need to find his workshop and work my way into the industry from there

yeah, OL used to be very much a basics + suiting brand. they were really known for the sweats and 1940s and 1950s shirts and they sat more along with other euro brands like norse etc, or at least that's the impression i got when i first heard about them. then they started to experiment with slightly different fabrics / textures and prints, and then probably more noticeably in the last year, silhouettes (just like Ques said). The idea of crinkled shirt / trousers, tie dye, zips, dropped shoulders, tunics etc, a few years ago would have been strange.

clearly the guys in charge have a lot of ideas and want to keep moving things forward and experimenting. at their price point (especially when it hits the sale) i think they're one of the most exciting brands around and it's refreshing to see in comparison to other euro stuff like apc or norse etc, who never seem change season to season. i also have a particular affinity to OL because i feel my taste changed with them over the years.

i think it's also interesting to note that the designers for OL were initially graphic designers, rather than having been trained in some sort of apparel-related field, iirc

the usual justification is that tall and skinny models are like human "hangers" so you can see the natural shapes of the garments without being "distracted" by the model's body. Which I think it's kind of shitty and objectifying in its own way.

Also it is probably easy to design a runway for a "standardized" shape.

if I were a designer I'd just have a clotheshanger on a stand on wheels roll through very robotically

well assuming I'm some designer, I'm probably more interested in presenting my clothes than contributing to the modeling situation. I don't really see anything wrong with that.

Recently came across a Chinese designer called Li Dengting. He has two labels: Crane and Wander. Here's some of his stuff I find quite interesting: Sorry for poor picture quality

My question is: Do male models earn enough walking in Paris/Milan/London/NYC to buy the clothes they're put in?[/quote]

i know a guy who walked for hedi, got around £350 i believe, plus took them ages to pay him. obviously it's different if you start getting big print campaigns, but those are few and far between, particularly for the guys. jobbing male model is not a lucrative profession

"Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski is to be the new artistic director of Hermès. Currently the design director of The Row (the understated Olsens label), the 36-year-old has previously worked under Phoebe Philo at Céline and started her career at Maison Martin Margiela"

so there you go.

I've been going sockless lately cuz I like how it looks/but really am just too lazy to wash my socks after every wear in the summer and it's nice and comfy except sometimes I'll end up at a weird party where they don't like shoes inside and it always feels awkward to be wandering around barefoot at a house party...

So like, emergency party socks in bag y/n?

, regarding the choice of models for CdG, Rei's not one to politicise her clothes or her shows, ever. Her only concern is her approach to design and the business, everything else she's happy to follow the industry standards. You'll find that even in the 80s she hired models with typical body shapes that were prevalent back then and different from the ones we see now. I'm not saying I condone it, but designers can only pick and choose a few statements they want to make.

I find it strange that Yohji picks a diverse range of male models for his men's shows and a very standard selection for the females. I'm guessing that he designs the mens stuff as a reflection of himself and his preferences, and the female items for the ideal woman in his mind.
