not sure if you guys are familiar with this website, but in their words it is "a global soundmap dedicated to field recording, phonography and the art of listening."
essentially, people from all over the world record a place for a few minutes (generally 10), and post it to the website. Through the map, you can then listen to the ambience of a myriad of locations all over the world.
this seems like a great way for us to share an often overlooked but integral aspect of our lives, as well as gain insight to where others calls home. ct is home to many different people spanning many different places & nations, and we'd all love to hear what you call home.
so: record a few minutes (preferably 10) of a place that you call integral to where you live. a public place, whether it be outdoors, in a local shopping mall, by the highway, in the forest, at the beach, whatever. just some noise that you live around. you can use your laptop or external mic to record the sound (w/ quicktime or free download of audacity on the web), find the location of the place on aporee, and then upload the file to the site (wav or mp3). then make a post here saying where the place is, and we can all use the search function on the site to get a glimpse of what it's like to be there.
to start, here's mine: sylvia lake, new jersey
