Hey guys I wrote a sonnet I didn't hate a few years ago. Poetry is really tough for me to write.

"Avalanche"

When I hear "avalanche" I always think
of bits and pieces that might cause its start−
A smattering of rocks from some high brink
or ledge that split from boulders and depart.
What happens right before the change is made
A leaning, or a push, from something more,
a force unseen that triggers a cascade
and lends its hand to crushing savage roar
that strips a slope of trees and dirt and meat
left scattered, shaken by a wicked game
the unseen force makes haste on callous feet
an Oppenheimer marked by none with blame
And in the awful wake that bleeds and flows
what guilt is felt by that which never knows?

I am one of the new folks dragged here by dwindles. I'm not much of a ~creative~ writer, but I'm in a creative-writing-adjacent field (I'm a PhD student in literature), so I'm here to watch. I might try my hand at WICTW at some point though.

Most things that I write are not fit for general consumption (unless you love literary criticism), but I'm one of the new co-owners of d.so and co-editor of the new d.so blog, so I'll be writing stuff for that. , so that is a thing that I wrote that you can read. I haven't written for a general audience since high school, so I'm open to feedback.

Is it too late to get on the WICTW list?

Has anyone here ever self-published a chapbook? I did it for the first time in April, and though it was insane and stressful (my parents and a lot of my friends had never heard my stuff) it was also crazy rewarding. If anyone has been thinking about doing a chapbook, I really recommend it. Here's one of the poems. The formatting is probably really fucked up but eh
