so i'm sitting inside in my cabourn jack because i was too sick to eat enough today and now i'm really cold, and it occurred to me how lovely this thing is to me. one of those pieces of clothing that makes you realize how much a dollar is worth to you. i lost my raybans at work (i.e. i left them on the counter and someone probably stole them) and i don't care at all. but if the same happened to this jacket i'd be heart broken.

it's sturdy and warm and zips up all nice and snug, and pretty and reliable. i'm pretty sure i like this thing more than my last dog. if i got fat i wouldn't be so concerned about my enlarging belly over the fact i might not be able to fit into this jacket anymore.

does anyone else feel this way about a piece of clothing they have? just irrationally happy about it?

that was all a bit soupy but i guess i'm in love with a jacket.

The World is Your Oyster- new HK label by Calvin Chan and Joyce Kun, Some interesting stuff. Especially the kangaroo newspaper pocket, sleeve holes, and sock garters? Love the sweats in second fit.

QUESTION FROM THE GRIM FUTURE

Postby bels » Tue Aug 05, 2014 8:22 am

It is the grim future. Bela has taken over planet earth. Everyone is issued one pair of Stan Smiths and some black Tricker's derbies. You're allowed one pair of specialised sports footwear for running, tennis, weightlifting, whatever and Uniqlo will provide you 14 pairs of socks and 14 pairs of airism underoos. The rest of your wardrobe can only be from one brand.

You will have to wear this brand every day, to every event you go to. You'll be wearing it at the gym, the supermarket, at work, at funerals, at interviews. You have to buy these clothes yourself, there is no clothing allowance. Whatever brand you pick you're allowed their diffusion lines and collabs.

Which brand do you pick?

I'd go with supreme because they have released a huge variety of things in the past. they even made a suit so I have something to wear for "formal occasions" ;)

Hmm... Maybe Undercover. I'm not a huge fan of how slim some of their cuts are, but it gives access to Undercover, JohnUNDERCOVER, UU, and Gyakusou. I think that's a spread I could live with.

Probably Yohji unless I have to actually have to take money into consideration in which case maybe Margaret Howell except that's not a lot better but oh well.

Ralph Lauren, for sheer volume. You get RLPL and RRL for cool stuff, plus enough diffusion lines that you can buy cheapish clothing for pretty much any imaginable situation.

Engineered Garments, obviously. Like 70% of my purchases in the last year were EG anyway. They got tees, suits and everything in between. Tons of stuff on the 2nd-hand market. No athletic wear but I don't do much in the way of athletic activities. You might catch me doing squats or running in nothing but this apron though:

I would choose kolor. tad expensive but they have a fair amount of variety, and a selection of suits so i suspect it would be okay. I would choose adam kimmel but it would be hard as he hasn't released anything for like 3 years.

w/o a doubt I'd choose Our Legacy

not too pricey if you're devoting yourself to it
solid collections season after season
wide range of shirting (tees and button downs)
some really nice washed jeans
I like their outerwear

I would probably choose needles, as they have quite a range if garments, and I think their aesthetic is great. Some of their pieces are just strange enough for me. And nepenthes looks great with stans. Also gives me the option of EG and south2southwest.

inb4 tom chooses gap outlet to wear forever.

i'd pick apc or acne, i think. both brands are pretty basic with a few interesting pieces, do some sort of formal wear sometimes, and some sort of loungewear. hits all the areas of life.

Just had to justify a bunch of Topman-clad youths hanging outside Tesco, that my OG Flyknits were real, but just trashed as I play sport in them after they *literally* called me out on them. All whilst in my work clothes holding mangetout.. Odd experience for Northern England..

I'd probably go for Levis if I was still able to scrounge around for vintage stuff. the sheer range between the regular mainline stuff and the diffusion stuff, and between vintage and newer stuff is super extensive. the brand itself is largely unassuming and ubiquitous, could tell people "oh it's just levis" and no one would bat an eye. I'd probably in rough shape for formal wear though.

Ralph Lauren, without a doubt. The clothing is made for my body type and I'd be set for any life situation. Some of the tightest QC in the realm of vertical companies.

it's so interesting how William Gibson influenced Errolson Hugh's design philosophy and now Errolson Hugh's clothing influences William Gibson
