I saw Mac DeMarco last week. it was kind of a slow start but ended up being really fun. they did a silly Coldplay cover and the encore was a Neil Young cover. here's a clip (not mine) of the last song w/ crowdsurfing + encore:

I'm glad he still does "Together" as the last song for this tour as well.

overall, would recommend checking out if you get the chance.

Thoughts on what The Weeknd has been doing lately? Often and King of the Fall have me very hyped for the new album

Sophie is one of the most innovative producers in dance music right now. Just completely reinvigorating the scene to me with this sense of playfulness and experimentalism that made dubstep/future garage so good in the first place. Sophie had the best electronic song of last year imo with Bipp and this one is massive.

My supervisor at works stop by my station (I work in a factory) every now and then, to ask me to do this and that and what not. I usually have some sort of music playing through my iHome, because headphones are not allowed. At that moment, Tigers Jaw was playing, and my supervisor comes over and asks who is playing. I tell him. he nods his head and softspokenly says, "cool."

Next day I come in and he tells me how he listened to their DISCOGRAPHY, twice. Granted it's only 3 albums and a few LPs, it's still pretty cool. He recommends me a band called Lusk. They only have one album and it's from 97. It's really solid. Pretty feel good rock with some punk/emo vibes, and gets pretty psychedelic in some spots too.

how do i embed :[

I need more music to run to!! I've been loving Bonobo and Yusef Lateef, I think I'd like more smooth jazz music without lyrics (running to Chet Baker is deplorable).

This is my favorite Bonobo song, after listening through The North Borders all the way to Dial 'M'. :^)

Does anybody here still listen to Relient K? I just finished listening to collapsible lung and thought some songs were good, but it was an overall average project. Forget and not slow down remains my favorite album by them.

I'm also planning to see them on their 10th anniversary concert of Mmhmm which I'm really excited for.

Shit dude, in 5th grade I used to listen to Relient K and Anberlin with my best friend who turned into the sovereign lord of all douche bags the next year (middle school is rough times for the guy who hits puberty last), thanks for the reminder. I still listen to Anberlin (smiling).

I also listened to Collapsible Lung last year and was pretty ':/', but I still smile like a little kid through Be My Escape, and I don't see that changing.

The first song of RTJ2 dropped recently and it made me go and listen to the first Run the Jewels. I really like the agressive feel and I'm excited to see what (if any) evolution comes from pt 2!

I'm twenty minutes into this album by constructus corporation. It's a music project that includes Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er before Die Antwoord becomes a thing. It's a part spoken word story part hip hop album about a futuristic floating city that reminds me of the Incal with rap battles. Would be a good soundtrack to R U a Cyberpunk

I always find it really weird hearing songs that are sampled by artists with much more pop cultural presence, particularly when I've already heard the song containing the sample a lot more than the original. Often this makes the sampled section sound almost out of place in the song it's actually from but it's really interesting seeing how producers can take parts from songs with such a different feel to the track they're making.

Examples:

Most recently (for me), sampling (MMM WHATCHA SAAAAYYYYY). This one is doubly weird because that one part of the song also received exposure in the season 2 finale to The OC which, again, has kind of a different feel to the actual song.

Power by Yeezy sampling 21st Century Schizoid Man. Come on you must all know this one, still though I was weirded out when I found out it was from a prog rock song.

A bunch of Clams Casino beats, used by Lil B and A$AP Rocky, sampling this other This one gets to the point where when I hear the bit at 0:40 in the original I keep expecting it to drop and for to come in.

new Flying Lotus, this time with Kendrick Lamar o_o great song...his lyrics mesh super well with what flylo has been saying about this album being a meditation on legacies after death, and the preoccupations we have with posterity while living

Has the overall scope of pop music decreased drastically in the last 5-10 years, in the sense of less genres and sounds and ideas being allowed into the public sphere than previously? Was listening to some Shaggy the other day and didn't think it would fly in the current market. Is this due to consumer's tastes becoming more narrowed? Or has the collective belt-tightening of the RIAA resulted in less adventurous material making it past the gatekeepers, in much the same way as Hollywood's current trend of safe but unremarkable blockbusters?

Speaking of the decrease in variety of sound, not only does Rixton's "Me and My Broken Heart" come across as a only-very-slightly-younger-otherwise-perfect-carbon-copy of the established Maroon 5 / Train over-compressed pop band sound, it was pointed out to me by my SO that the melody so closely resembles (the extremely under-appreciated) Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More" as to make a lawsuit seem a possibility.

If you're only looking at pop music maybe but there's so much more out there. In the overall view of music it's the exact opposite. Music is incredibly diverse these days.

Who else is on the new Aphex Twin tracks? This reminds me of Windowlicker but it's funkier and less unsettling.
