Taking care of this pooch for a number of months for a friend of a friend; her name is Bella (smiling)

She's a reet looker but can be a giant a-hole a lot of the time - taking her on walkies can be very stressful because she tries to pick a fight with everything from people to dogs to figments of her imagination (her eyesight isn't all that great I'm guessing). She'll also try to chase cars from time to time, which is rather played-out at this point.

has anyone ever had a dog who's had a seizure / seizures? one of ours had one the other night and it freaked everyone out pretty bad. took her to the vet yesterday but it was mostly inconclusive. she's 9, so she seems pretty old for epilepsy to start developing. fingers crossed it's not anything super serious.

actually my dog has seizures. (dachshund) They prescribed him som med and he rarely has them anymore.

we avoid those behaviors that trigger it such as

* excitement: too many people
* loneliness : alone for too long
* being too hot or cold
* yelling!

My dog started having seizures late 2013. It used to be a monthly thing, but it's less frequent nowadays. We did a whole battery of tests short of a CT-scan and the vet found nothing that could cause the seizures. We did have a cyst removed from his cheek a few months ago and that seemed to help. Vet's diagnosis was that the cyst was pressing on some facial nerve and that might have been the cause. He's turning 10 this year.

The vet has suggested meds but once he's on it, he has to take it for life. I dont want him to be dependent on drugs so for now he's not taking anything and we deal with the seizures as they come. The attacks usually happen at around 1 or 2 AM and last for a minute.
