'Almost all the internet fashun aficionados i've met who post on the Internet read murakami. I think it's because the novels are very durable, easy to read, low maintenance; they have author kudos but are not trendy (other than 1Q84 few murakami books seem to receive attention from the mainstream literary media lately); and, of course, they are dangerously cheap and plentiful second hand. 1950s Proust on the other hand is scarce.'
