sometimes i feel like i should just go to thrift stores and buy the nicest clothes i can find (with no regard for what size they are.. the best stuff is usually size medium that fits like a large) and just take them apart and experiment with turning them in to new garments.

If you legitimately have the skills and patience to do this, then go for it (I'm jealous if you do). At the same time, I would feel kind of bad wrecking nice stuff in the size most likely to be found and worn by someone else.

i'd definitely have to practice/learn a bit before actually taking a seamripper and a pair of scissors to a nice shirt. i know a little bit of sewing but i've always felt that the usual "alteration" methods posted on MFA and the like are silly, and that you'd get better results if you took the clothes apart and put them back together, rather than just awkwardly "pinching and pinning" things. I've also never had or seen good results when it comes to armpits/crotches and the endorsed "alteration" methods that float around the internet.
